MRFH 3.0 - The Change and the Bloggening
« Thread Started on Dec 18, 2008, 7:46am »

I'm putting this notice on the forums because I can't be entirely sure about the status of the front page for the next few days.

In short, Mutant Reviewers From Hell is getting one... heck... of an overhaul. I've been thinking about it for a while and the staff has discussed it, and we know that we have a few problems to address:

(1) Updating the site is a daily 30+ minute task, one that is centrally located (i.e. my computer) and is taking up time I don't necessarily have these days.

(2) We've long since passed the limitations of my own web design know-how, and as a result, MRFH will start looking more and more aged.

(3) We want to be able to expand MRFH in new ways, allow the entire staff to be involved in the posting process, integrate cult news, reviews and articles seamlessly, and to get the word out to more people about our site.

Because of all this, over the next week or so MRFH is going to make a transition to using Wordpress software -- same URL, same content, and none of the older stuff will be deleted. Hopefully, if we get this set up right, it will allow us to post more frequently, give readers the option of a RSS feed, and help MRFH move forward.

Change always brings with it mixed emotions and resistance, so know that we're not just changing for the sake of it. There are very good reasons behind this, and our desire for this transition is that it will enable MRFH to survive and thrive over the next decade and beyond.

Thanks for your readership and support. Any questions, please post on this thread, but know that there's going to be a lot of "tinkering" with the front page over the next week or so -- so what you see might not be the definitive new look and style until we say it is.

Heh, just be patient -- there's a lot going on in the background I'm trying to figure out, and everything really is just experimental for a while.

Absolutely! We know what we see in the browser is just the tip of the iceberg. There's no rush at all -- you just have fun in the machine room and the Jefferies tubes... Thanks for this great site!

I really, really, really, really don't like the new site layout. Please bring back the old one, now.
