Mutant Scavenger Hunt 2: The Quickening!
« Thread Started on Sept 27, 2006, 10:37am »

Welcome back gang, to The Mutant Scavenger Hunt Part 2: The Quickening!

(I may change that.)

Pay attention, now. There’s some new rules in play. Be sure to read this!

THE (OLD) RULES
(Read the FULL version from the first round here)
- any member of the Forum can play, including Mutants
- I will post a list of five things. Your goal is to name five different movies that contain each item and describe how it appears. I will be cracking down on this rule, as a lot of people just started listing movie titles last time.
- a maximum of FIVE POSTERS can reply once to each List. If you're sixth in line, you get nada
- after five posters have responded (or a reasonable amount of time, usually 24 hours, goes by), I will update the score. I will try and do this at least once a day
- subsequent posters may not repeat answers given already for the same list.
- you may not repeat your OWN answers for the same list.
- repeat movies with the same name are fine if they're unrelated. Sequels are fine
- you get one point per correct item found. If it's in a movie I haven't seen, I may call on the other Mutants for verification, but all decisions by PoolMan are final
- you may not edit your post. This cost people lots of points early on last time.
- further rules may be announced by me if we get into a loophole or tiebreak situation

THE (NEW) RULES
- the fifth item on each list will not be text, it will be a snippet of a screen shot from a movie. You are looking for any movie that has that object in it. Your answer will include the movie, the scene, and what you think the object is.
- if you get the EXACT movie the screen shot is taken from, you get a bonus point on top of the point you got for getting it right
- I will be liberal in the interpretation of what is in the picture, but don’t push it too much
- so if I put up a picture of The Bowler’s bowling ball from Mystery Men, you would get a point for naming a movie with a bowling ball in it (say, The Big Lebowski). You might get a point for naming a movie with a skull in it (say, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade). And if you named Mystery Men as the movie, you’d get two points. (and if you named a movie with a table in it because the ball is pictured on a table, you get nothing, because the focus of the picture is obviously not the table)
- the first person to win each round will get an extra single point (changed from last time)
- therefore, it’s possible to get 7 points in a single round (5 for all correct answers, 1 for first one across the line with all five correct, and 1 for getting the exact movie the screencap is from)
- extra-clever entries may - MAY - earn an extra point. I reward humour.

The first player to 50 points is proclaimed Mutant Scavenger Hunt Champion. If you win, try to actually use this title in conversation or posts (unlike our first round champ, Macaroni & Death, who didn’t even show up to claim his sash, sniff…).

I wanted to give everyone a chance to read this before we started play, so the first list goes up later today. Don’t forget to check back!

One question: Are we allowed to use non English speaking movies too? If we provide evidence the movies exist?

All right class, pencils down. You've all done well in your first quiz. Except Justin, who thinks Grond is the Black Beast of AAAAAUUUGH, Shalen, who I caught copying answers, and Storm Rider who came late to class. See me later, you can do better.

Ah, just kidding. The Score!

HeadMutant 6 (first past the wire)
StarOpal 6 (got Return of the King correct)
Lordmoon 5
Big T 5
SpiderDancer 4 (repeated Justin's answer of The Fugitive)

I thought the pointy helmet would have been a dead giveaway on the LotR screencap, but StarOpal has the sharpest eye, spotting the White Tree of Gondor on the banners. For the full screencap, have a look here.

Stormy, I feel bad cutting you off, but rules is rules. Good luck getting in quicker tomorrow.

So it's off to a grand start, with Head Mutant Justin and StarOpal tied for an early lead and a great pack of contenders close at their heels. Stay tuned!

Yeah five minutes late, darn the luck.

Wow StarOpal I bow in front of your hard-core LOTR watching, I would have been ready to put money on the screen cap beeing from Monty Python and The Holy Grail. I thought the tree was a kind of Templar crucifix.

I must be honest, it was hard-core Viggo Mortenson watching. He wears the same emblem at the end when he's all king-ish.

But if you really wanna bow that's okay too!

Whee! All my entries were good! *so happy*
