Your having lived in Japan makes the anime fan in me feel all weird.
Every time I hear of someone having spent any amount of time in Japan--even if it's just for a visit--my patently-illogical, vaguely-delusional, and more-than-a-little-creepy response is to assume that said person has some privileged bit of anime-related information which can only be gleaned directly from the source, and that I must have the same.
Perfect example: An elderly Japanese couple came into my store the other day, and I thought to myself, "Hmmm. . .I wonder what would happen if I shook them violently without explaining why?"
As illustrated by the previous example, probability of actual association with anime is not necessary. You, for instance, may not be into anime at all, but you MUST KNOW SOMETHING!!!
. . .
Sorry.

*looks right, then left* Who? Me? I....uh.....*slowly starts backing away* Well.....you know I really don't speak that much of the language. I read katakana and hiragana but...I....and...my Japanese friends are mostly girls and they're not much into anime so....hey look over there! *breaks into full run*
Really.....I doubt I'd know anything that you'd find remotely helpful in your search for nuggets of anime knowledge. My anime experience thus far can be attributed to my friend, Heather, who also lived in Japan (she just attended the Anime Con in Texas). She showed me Saber Marionette J, Azu Manga Daioh, Slayers, and a little of Fruits Basket. That sums up my anime experience in Japan, other than being bombarded by constant anime imagery and little old ladies walking around with blue hair. 'Cause you gotta have blue hair!
