i came close to making 'the unborn' my first theatrical film of 2009.
basically, at 9:30 i decided to make the 10:15 last show, but then saw the line when i got there at 10:07 and was like "bleh." thankfully, a friend literally called me the minute i decided not to bother so i picked her up instead and we both had our first way-too-much-to-drink experience of 2009. life is more fun when you have new 'firsts' every new year!
but maybe i should pick a better film for my "first theatrical film of 2009." like maybe 'my bloody valentine 3-d' would be a more solid choice? argh!
what are YOU going with? or have already? i'm so excited! (for you AND me!)

After a search, and subsequent find, for the ticket stub, I have confirmed that Twilight is the first, and, as yet, only movie I've gone to see this year. I was so disappointed. While I'm not saying it was good, it was nowhere near as bad as I had built it up in my mind to be.  I comforted myself by leaning over to Sis and whispering "om nom nom" every time Edward was about two centimeters away from Bella's face. And when she's doing the Google search there's a line of text that comes up and says "the legend of bear slapping" that I about collapsed a lung trying not to laugh over, that I could never explain 'cause it reminded me of one of those "you just had be there moments" and she (Sis) kept elbowing me to cut it out. I had a good time going, though I wish the theater would've been emptier (Seriously, I went to an 11 pm showing on a Sunday night five or six weeks after it came out and there were still a good twenty people other than us). So I'm, in a way, beginning this year like last year, a great experience at a mediocre movie that isn't as bad as I thought it would be. And last year gave us a bunch of great movies! Just remember to thank me kids. |

My first film experience was The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Which I saw on January 1st and is now one of my favorite movies ever crafted by humankind, so I'm thinking the rest of the year might be a bit of a disappointment. Unless HP&tHBP lives up to its trailers, anyway...

Not sure if this counts but I had the unfortunate experience of sitting through the MST3K "Monster A-Go-Go" episode. Man, that film was bad! I really would have preferred to sit through Manos again...
At least I've avoided The Skydivers and Red Zone Cuba, so far.

I really would have preferred to sit through Manos again... At least I've avoided The Skydivers and Red Zone Cuba, so far. Dude, Monster A-Go-Go is, in my opinion, the worst episode there is. Skydivers is bad, yes, but at least the guys make it funny every now and then. Manos is, well, we all know what that is. But MAGG? It's just such a HORRIBLE patchwork quilt of a sequences completely unrelated to each other to begin with, full of nothingness and despair. Even worse, there is nothing at all for the guys to riff on. So you just sit there and sit there and sit there and you feel like it will NEVER end. I give that episode a try every few months when I'm feeling masochistic. Oh if only I could have found that episode, un MST-ed, to release upon Kaleb instead of Child Bride. But the stipulations, darnit, the stipulations! I will get you, Kaleb!!! |

I haven't checked out anything in theatres yet (lack of post-holiday funds), but I did finally pop in a dollar bin DVD that my roommate got me for Christmas called It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time. It's about a con artist and it's got Isaac Hayes and John Candy in it. I haven't finished it yet (had to come to work), but thus far I'm laughing regularly. And the main character, Sweeney (Anthony Newley), has a Fletch-like quality that I'm finding to be totally booty kickin'.

Grease.
Followed shortly by the more respectable Labyrinth.
I hang my head in shame.

Gran Torino is the first film I watched in the theaters in 2009. Incredible, mindblowing and quite possibly Eastwoods greatest performance.

Dude, Monster A-Go-Go is, in my opinion, the worst episode there is. Which is probably why my friend chose it ... the film made no sense and was just the worst kind of bad. I mean, some of those films deserve to be ripped to pieces. But Monster A-Go-Go? I refused to accept it was a film and not just a Jack Daniels induced nightmare I had. |

As genius as those guys are, there was nothing that could save that episode. Now if you want a movie full of nothing that is somehow made hilarious, go for Starfighters. |

Is it just me, or is he getting steadily more intimidating as he gets older? Nope. He totally is. I think he made a deal with Lucifer a few years back. I read that in Entertainment Weekly once. My siblings just get me Wal-Mart gift cards. I want to trade kin! That episode is indeed bad and about absolutely nothing. It's a testament to their genius that the crew was able to make anything out of it. You'd just better thank Google that they took down the uncensored version of Child Bride. I'm not that nice of a person.  |

"first theatrical film of 2009." Eh, it's been too cold to leave the house. Does home theater count? I saw Casino Royale when I dropped by a friend. Yes, I know how late I am. I was scared, ok? And though I need to see it again before judging it, I already know I needn't have been scared. Also, I practised for Star Trek thusly (do I get scared easily?), which is released the day before my birthday. So I am thinking midnight show, maybe. |

Is it completely terrible to admit that the last movie I saw in the theatre was Sweeney Todd?
I've popped a couple of DVD's in over the last few days though...they were all so fabulous I can barely remember them! P.S. I Love You, What Happens in Vegas, Good Luck Chuck...
