Maybe I'm just biased because I really liked Len Cariou's take, but I'm not impressed. His voice sounds thin, he doesn't hold notes as long as he should, and he speaks or shouts some lines rather than singing them.

His voice sounds thin, he doesn't hold notes as long as he should, and he speaks or shouts some lines rather than singing them. He also has a problem with singing the vowels correctly too. It always bugs me a bit when someone has to assume an accent for a role, and if they have to sing sometimes the actor will assume the accent while singing. Sometimes it works, sometimes it just doesn't at all. I love Johnny Depp, but I foretell way too many teenage girls squealing over this one simply on the virtue that it's Johnny Depp and "OMGZ HE SINGS SO GUD!!11!lolz" (We're going to ignore the fact that I was and always truly will be a Johnny Depp fangirl.)

Plus, I'm slightly thrown by the fact that Depp's Todd sounds almost exactly like Captain Jack.

A movie directed by Tim Burton about a vengeful barber played by Johnny Depp? The t-shirts and messenger bags from Hot Topic should be coming out any minute now, if they're not already available. Seriously though, I suppose I'll go see this one since Alan Rickman is in it. A few weeks after opening of course, to avoid the Depp fangirls

It's kind of sad, as the actual musical is amazing and doesn't deserve that treatment. Personally I'm going to see Alan Rickman AND Sacha Baron Cohen.

I think Cohen as Pirelli was a brilliant bit of casting. I'm also going to hear Sondheim's score. I've been listening to the musical since I was in third grade or so (thanks to my Sondheim-loving, theater major stepmom). The promos I've seen really seem to downplay just how much singing there is (if they keep all the songs, that is). I wonder if the Hot Topic hordes/Depp fangirls will be taken aback. I wish they could have fit Victor Garber in somewhere. He's obviously too old to be Anthony now, but it would be nice if he could have played another role or had a cameo.

Magill, I swear, just looking at lots of your responses here on the forum you're like a conglomeration of three really good friends of mine. It's eerie.

Wanna know what would be really eerie? Maybe I am your friends, and we decided to join this board to freak you out.
Either that, or you just are friends with really cool people.

To my thinking, Victor Garber should be in everything. I grew up watching him on Road to Avonlea. He's probably one of the first actors I could recognize.
