My sister and I were watching Sleepy Hollow the other dy, and after some thought, I decided that Ichabod Crane is by far Johnny Depp's best role, even if it's not his best movie. Everyone always talks about how great he is as Jac- sorry, Captain Jack Sparrow, but even that doesn't compare to Crane in my opinion. I just think it's brilliant how he can convincingly give away that this character is exactly everything he stands against. He's a believer in the Headless Horseman legend, he's kind of a coward willing to face selected fears (the spider scene comes to mind. "Kill it! No, STOMP IT!") and he's very squeamish. But he pretends to be skeptic, fearless, and...um...non-squeamish. And he pulls it off effectively! I like it because instead of being a genuinely eccentric man, he's a genuinely eccentric man trying to be normal, and I believe him! In general Sleepy Hollow is not my favorite Depp movie, Crane is definately my favorite Depp role.
What do you think is Johnny Depp's best part and why?

Donnie Brasco. For sheer acting, I'd say Donnie Brasco. It's very different from most of his other parts, and he is just so great in it.
For fun quirkyness of the character Once Upon a Time in Mexico's Sands. It's the part where he's wearing the shirt that says "FBI" in big letters while having conspiratorial meetings that gets me.
And Don Juan Demarco.
....I kid!

Well, Edward Scissorhands comes to mind. Because who else could do it?
But I think I'm going to have to go with Sam, in Benny & Joon. As someone who has lived with people with mental illness, I have to say that this is the most realistic depiction of love (both between Benny and Joon and between Joon and Sam) and mental illness I've yet to see on screen.
