www.oscars.org/79academyawards/noms.htmlAny thoughts? I've only seen The Devil Wears Prada, Cars, Pirates 2 and Pursuit of Happyness (though I've been wanting to see Little Miss Sunshine and The Departed for ages). Also, I can't believe Ryan Gosling got nominated. I've ranted on here before about my love for the stars of Canadian children's programming of the mid-90s. Huzzah!

How I don't miss thee. I'm glad Little Miss Sunshine has as many nominations as it does. Comedies hardly get any recognition come Oscar-time (not to mention that it was released during the SUMMER, of all times). Alan Arkin and Abigail Breslin both deserve to win. On the other hand, it would be interesting if Eddie Murphy got the Supporting Actor Oscar, considering how many bad movies he's made, and probablly will make. I can see it now: "Academy Award winner Eddie Murphy in...the Nutty Professor 3: Revenge of the Klumps!"

MutantClare's sister worked on Little Miss Sunshine, so I'm hoping that wins everything under the sun.

I hope Children of Men picks it up for Cinematography, Editing and Adapted Screenplay. Pan's Labyrinth definitely deserves everything it's nominated for. I haven't actually seen any of the films nominated for the big awards but I have seen Infernal Affairs which The Departed was a remake of. It would be interesting to see Little Miss Sunshine win.

Aarg, I hate it when movies I love compete for awards in the same category. I don't know whether I want Little Miss Sunshine to win, or The Departed. On the one hand, Little Miss Sunshine was hilarious, well-acted, and did not end on the horribly depressing note I thought it would. Plus, it has Sufjan Stevens on the soundtrack, which is always a plus. On the other hand, The Departed was, in a word, awesome. In two words, ridiculously awesome. I went in there expecting some boring action movie, but ended up getting drawn into the story, rooting for both Matt Damon's character, and Leonardo DiCaprio's character.
Gaaah.
Oh well, at least I can root for Pan's Labyrinth to win best Foreign Language film. Woo! Go Pan's Labyrinth! Yaaay!

Also, having seen it last night, I'm rooting for Pan's Labyrinth alongside Little Miss Sunshine. The only problem is that they're both nominated for best Original Screenplay. Conflict...baaad...

Talk about conflict. I saw "Little Miss Sunshine" and "Dreamgirls" at the theater last year and loved both...and both had amazing ensembles and well-deserved Oscar-nominated supporting turns!
I definately want "Little Miss Sunshine" for Best Picture, though. It would be a kick in the pants for a comedy to win...and a little sleeper comedy, at that! Oh, and I saw "Cars" on DVD and adored it, and while I know other people who have liked "Monster House" and "Happy Feet," "Cars" made me fall in love with the characters when I don't like car racing, cars in general, OR Larry the Cable Guy.

That Pan's Labyrinth and Children of Men did not receive a spot on the Best Picture noms is... well, predictable. Go Hollywood, choose the safe bets of dramas and ensembles and completely eliminate imagination.
Then again, when have they really bucked this grain? Or mixed their metaphors?

www.xanga.com/trevelyan__006That's my blog, I have some predictions up there. I don't mean to brag, but I'm usually right about these things. I'm kinda pissed that Ken Watanabe wasn't nominated. Pan's Labyrinth rules and should win everything it is nominated for!

Now there, Fearless Leader, you have hit upon the reason why I a)never watch the Oscars and b)deliberately avoid watching winners.
