It harkens back to a simpler, slower time, when the big screen really was the BIG screen.
I can remember going with my parents and sitting in the back seat all cuddled up in my blanket and falling asleep before the movie was over, but thought that drive-in's were all closed down, well the Drive-In is not as obsolete as you might think it is...or at least not in Southern California.
In Montclair, CA they have the Mission Tiki Drive-In. 3 big screens, double features every night, $6 a person (kids 9 (I think it is) and under are free)...what more could you ask for?
My boyfriend wanted to go see Smokin' Aces at the movies and we decided to hit up the Drive-In instead (after he made it very clear we were there to WATCH the movie, and to not try to distract him!). $12 to watch that and Alpha Dogs also showing with it (verses the $40 for two people to watch 2 movies in a theatre around here). We brought an ice chest with some refreshments (they just ask that you don't bring alcholol...I must admit we sort of broke that rule just a wee bit). The snack bar is AMAZING! Corn dogs for $1.50, Popcorn, soda, candy, hamburgers, fries....all yummy and WAY cheaper than a regular theatre.
So we got all fooded up, sat down in the car, tuned the radio to the correct station and cuddled up to watch the movie. Now I gotta tell you this was the best way to watch! at no point was there other people coughing or whispering and covering up the soundtrack, however if there was something I wanted to say, I could say it without worrying about ruining anyone else's experience.
It was a good time...anyone else have drive-in's near them? I would definately recommend you hittin them up!
