Snicker. Hey, they don't even get events correct when they're from fiction. I don't think they even try with real events. Reality is just more source material to rip off without the hassle of a dedicated fanbase objecting to irrational changes.
It doesn't promote as well, but it apparently must get more butts in the seats than "Totally made up so we could make the movie we felt like making."

I guess it's just a personal gripe. For example Frank Miller's 300 does not use the "OMG it's like based on a real battle and stuff" tag line even though it is. And because they didn't use that tag line I won't care if a couple of mythological creatures show up to spice up the action. But movies like Wolf Creek, Deep Water, Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story, etc. just rub me the wrong way.

I don't regret Open Water because I did think it was a great concept, and parts of it were great in my opinion. But I think it would've done much better as a short film or something. Cut the whole beginning. How long did it take to get them in the water, exactly? And the nudity was either completely gratuitous or thrown in for a more "artsy" feel or something. No reason for it. And there was just so little action I fell asleep for a good half hour upon my first viewing. But it's biggest failure were the characters. In a successful movie you should love the protagonist(s) but here I kind of loathed them to an extreme and couldn't wait for them to die. However, I love the camera work and the overall feeling of terror. It would be an awesome 15-minute short or something. But I don't regret buying the DVD at all.
Anyway, back on subject; I hated The Patriot. Do not even mention that movie to me or I will go on a huge tangent about how horribly inaccurate it is. Nothing bothers me more than a "historical" film that mixes up its facts just for mass appeal. Ugh. It disgusts me to the highest degree.
(Back then armies were very strict about the rules of war, and a British soldier would NEVER have murdered civilians. In fact, the Americans were the more "barbaric" warriors at the time.)

40 Days and 40 Nights.
And it sounded so good when my sister recommended it.

Oooooooooh. I so wanted to like that one, but yeah. Any film that thinks rape is a comedic devise needs to be torn to shreds.

I think The Patriot blows, too. Cut the whole beginning. How long did it take to get them in the water, exactly? But if we cut that, we don't know: A) how busy they are, B) how much they need a vacation, C) that there is tension between them in the bedroom / she's getting tired of him in the sack, D) just how much he watches stuff on Discovery Channel and Animal Planet, E) how the time they spend in the water contrasts with the rest of their vacation. This opening is the true bulk of the character work in the film. And without it, the middle and end don't feel so harsh or tragic. This whole vacation was a chance for them to kick some of their daily stress, spend much-needed time alone, and get completely away from work. And the nudity was either completely gratuitous or thrown in for a more "artsy" feel or something. No reason for it. Actually... first of all, it's explained. The air conditioner is busted. Therefore, it's logically much more comfortable to be naked. Second of all, they're either married or a serious couple. And have most likely spent most of their nights together in bed nude, anyway. Why are people so uptight about this nudity? Because I've run into quite a few other people online that say this same thing. Besides, I watched in widescreen. Therefore, his penis is cut off (so to speak). So... good for the boys. Besides, it's already a scene where he's about to try to have sex with her. I think it might have been out of place in a scene where they were watching TV. Or playing cards with another couple. But it was used this way. And there was just so little action I fell asleep for a good half hour upon my first viewing. It does get a little lumberous around the Dive-Boat scenes. But I felt like this was important for a couple reasons. 1 big one was because we needed to see, realistically, how they were not counted in the first place. 2 was because this was, I really think, supposed to feel like any average diving boat trip / tour to see underwater life. Of course, we could have seen a little more. But then, this would be like Jaws 3 where they go to Sea World. I think we saw enough fish in that movie alone.

Or playing cards with another couple. I was told that was the only way to play pinocle.

Pinocle? Sounds like a fruity mixed drink.

Well you get a few fruity "mixed" drinks in you, and naked pinocle ain't so bad.

Okay, now pinocle is starting to sound like a little boy with a nose that grows longer when he lies.

Okay, I'll bite.
Pinocle is a card game played with four hands (either as individuals, two partner teams, or with "dummy" hands [which is very hard but can be done]). You need a special deck as cards are only 9-Ace, instead of the usual Poker deck of Ace-King (or 2-Ace if you will). Score is kept by how many "books" are taken by individual or team.
And behold just a peek at my excessive knowledge of card games.
