^^^ Yes...it is to get past...pretty much anything available now days to PREVENT theft is just a gamble, LoJack and the other systems are good for getting your car back sometimes in one piece...but for the most part, if someone wants your car, or something on it or in it, they will get it, and there's not much to stop them outside of keeping a rabid bear dog in it and not feeding him for a few days...that could prove to be negative for you but atleast when a theif sees this snarling beast, he'll probobly move on...

isn't the steering wheel lock one of the easiest things to bypass? This is true, as is what HRCC04 says. But as our little green friend also mentioned, if a thief wants into your car, or just plain wants your car, he'll get his wish. The real trick is to do two things: A) make your car less desirable for someone who wants to loot it (hence the empty open glovebox and taking the CD faceplate with you every single time). If there's nothing in it to take, and the thief doesn't want the car itself, they'll move on. B) make your car less desirable for someone who wants to take it. A Club lock will not make your car theftproof, nothing will. But picking that lock or making a cut takes time and usually makes noise, particularly if you have an alarm, too. That makes your car a bigger pain in the ass than it's worth, especially when there are other, less defended cars around. It's all about making your car the least desirable target. That's it, that's all. It'll never be theftproof. Make more sense?

^^I think those immobilizers are supposed to be the most effective deterrents. And I believe you get a discount on your insurance too.

I know in our neck of the woods, that's true, Martini. You get a discount for an alarm, a wheel lock, and an immobilizer, because you make the car less likely to be stolen, therefore you're less likely to ever cash in on your policy. I think it's a good practise.
No idea if that's the case in other parts of Canada or the US.

They are absolutely right about that...it is all about making a car less desirable, unfortunately and i guess kind of FORTUNATELY i have a friend that used to steal cars or break into them all the time (he has long since stopped this practice because of a new found respect for peoples stuff after being beaten nearly to death by a guy who didnt want to lose his car...thankfully)...anyways, he has told me many a times that if you see a car blinking with an alarm, most of the time they'll just pass it by, so certainly if you had an alarm, club and lock and some sort of jungle animal or something...they'd probobly not even consider it once they saw this. But even then, like they were saying, anything is better than nothing...deterents are just that, to deter and make it less accesible. Any word about your radio? They usually get the calls withen the first week of the theft...wouldnt it be awesome if the companies just released the information to you and you could legally handle the situation as you saw fit...hee hee, i can imagine our theft rate would probobly drastically decrease if that were the scenario. But so would the mortality rate for theives, and i just know there is so group out there hell bent on getting them fair justice. ;D

I heard that some cars (the Honda Odessy being one example) have a microchip in the car so unless you leave your keys in it, or your keys are stolen, it's almost impossible to steal.
Once I remember being robbed. It was a long time ago, like ten years, and they robbed a VCR.
Too bad it was a Beta.
Suckers!

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I was checking my voicemail at work today and got a message from the police department. My CD player was found in a pawn shop, the police confiscated it, and it's waiting for me to pick it up at a warehouse. A year and a half after it was stolen! I never did buy another CD player, so I'll see if it still works.

That is some crazy, awesome, and random stuff. Congratulations! Instead of turkey for Thanksgiving, you get a cd player!
