Heh, I remember SoM2 dragging me over to a Bratz displaly at the store a few years ago with the whole, "Puh-leeeeeeze MommyI'llLurveYouForever" begging spiel.
I took one look and hated them on sight. So I bought her some twice-as-expensive Polly Pocket adventure set instead because she collected Pollies anyway and...
You know, in retrospect, I think I was had.

Nothing says "I find you funny, Internet Stranger", like stealing their quote for your sigfile. You're just jealous I've never stolen one of your quotes aren't you?

I used to have about a million of those little polly pockets, my friends and I would make a city with them. At least Polly is appropriately porportioned, for being and inch tall

"Four high school girls, Yasmin, Cloe, Sasha and Jade are from socially and economically diverse backgrounds. What they have in common is their wish to be theirselves and realize their dreams and aspirations. They start their journey separated by high school cliques, only to realize that their lives will be more fulfilling. A story of empowerment and wish fulfillment, told through the unique mix of song, dance and fashion."
Oh my god, it's exactly like my life story! I HAVE to see this!

We have a limited selection of Bratz merchandise in the store where I work, but not to the point where I would know anything about the franchise. However, nothing that I can gather or guess at would lead me to believe that this is anything but a balfaced lie. . . . . .socially and economically diverse backgrounds. Unless. . . 1. It's code-speak for "obligatory ethnic ass-covering." I do enjoy attempting to guess which of the Big Four each of the girls represent based solely on their names. 2. There's some deleted further explanation along the lines of, ". . .in an alternate universe populated entirely by prostitutes."

I like how the outline could almost be cut n' pasted to Britney Spears' Crossroads. I say 'almost' only because that movie had only three girls, thus making it an entirely unique work.

Is that really a problem? I mean, if you don't like it, you don't buy it, eh? I guess, I still swear I know nothing about these dolls, that what you're refering to is "metrosexual" or whatever... but you seem almost... offended by these little tiny dolls. Does someone need a hug or something? StarOpal: Woo hoo, I'm famous! As for the above quote: I don't find pretty guys unattractive (au contraire, I'm quite the Sephiroth fan), I just find the dolls freaky. Mostly I'm inclined to point and laugh, just like Justin, but if you're going to make me be serious... What irritates me about the boy dolls is that they're basically just another fashion accessory. You got your makeup, your teeny slutwear, and your pretty boytoy, and none of those things is more important than the others. I don't have children, but that's not really the attitude I'd want my daughters to have about the opposite sex, any more than I'd want my sons to think girls exist for the purpose of holding up the boobs. ;D

MY LIFE HAS NO MEANING ANYMORE! Anyways, to say something on-topic, I'm pretty sure the "boy as an accesory" applies to pretty much any doll. Just look at Ken. Does any girl buy him for any reason other than the fact that their Barbie needs a love interest?

You're right there. My sisters and I used to play a game called "Harem Barbies" so Ken could have a break from constantly being the pawn in the arguments, schemes, and magical duels (we didn't really play "Barbie Goes to the Mall" kind of games) of our large assortment of Barbies. Harem Barbies was the only time he got to be in charge, and even then he was the subject of a lot of arguments over who was going out with him, who was going to wear the most special dress when he got home, etc. I'm not saying Bratz are really any worse, it's just something that's been bothering me on the whole.

Haha, I second the "never playing Barbie goes to the mall" games. My Barbie always ran away from her home and turned into animals (I also had a set of wild animal figures that were frequently used), and had many, many evil identical sisters.
Yeah, I think if any the Bratz dolls are less subtle about it. It's not "Buy the boy so that your doll will have someone to love!" it's "Buy the boy so that your doll can be super-hip with a totally cool boyfriend!" I don't know which ones worse, the idea that your doll can't be happy unless she has someone to marry, or the idea that your doll can't be happy unless she has a boy to make her even more popular. Both pretty smelly options, there.
