This movie could very well be the best I've seen in a year....It was amazing! Packed theater and the first two shows we wanted were sold out so we had to sit around for an hour, but it was so worth it!

Seriously, all this movie was missing was robots, aliens, gorillas, pirates, snakes, the mafia, cowboys, and ninjas. (No, the Immortals do not count as ninjas, because real ninjas SO would have pwned Sparta with one throwing star.) Had it encompassed all of these elements, it would have indeed been the ultimate cinematic experience in the history of cinematic experiences. On an Imax screen.
In 3D.

After the horrible movie theater experience that I started 2006 with (the first 3 movies I saw were Underworld Evolution, the New World, and Tristan and Isolde), it's so great to start 2007 watching 2 great movies: Black Snake Moan last week and 300 last night.
As much as I didn't like the subplot with Leonidas' wife (even though its ending kicked butt, the whole subplot smacked of "time filler"), the movie was still tons of fun. I'll probably go see it again when the theaters aren't so crowded.

Great flick! This is one of very few movies where the priviews (the cool extended theatrical ones) delivered 100%.
If you miss this film on the big screen you're going to be kicking yourself after you watch at home.

Wow. This is a movie that will put hair on your chest. Ironically, this was in the same theater that I saw Ghost Rider in. A much better way to start the movie year. The main thing that really impressed me was how it kept up the energy for the whole movie. That's not easy my friends! Also it had just the right balance of over-the-top visuals with straight faced acting. It's like everyone working on the movie got it. The wife scenes dragged a bit, I wanted to get back to the 300, but were probably necessary or else the movie would've been too exhausting. Since the days of plays there's been a psychology that goes into letting the audience take a rest, or they're too wore out appreciate the end. That's what I think happened here, so I'll forgive it. I didn't cry, DarthShady, but I did get chills. And of course all the hot guys didn't hurt. (Just to balance out the "Yeah! Lesbians!" crowd) Spoiler: Anyone else notice the father came back from mourning covered in ashes? That is just fantastic.

i need to see it again. the first time (the thursday midnight opening) i was focused on the adaptation from the comic to the screen (which was practically flawless: nice work, zach snyder!) and knowing all the story beats that were to come, it was hard to get super into it.
that said, i know it was AWESOME. actually, if i hadn't been the driver and had to get my two dates home (two dates: that's how i roll), my two co-workers and i would have gone to the 4:00 a.m. imax show. possibly without paying, because THIS IS SPARTA!!!!
the only drag is that they made surprisingly affordable replica spartan battle helmets, but they're so small that if you were to buy it and wear it, you'd look like the mutant dude. and that's ain't cool.

Yeah, I saw it. And I don't likes it.
See, the thing is that the movie is depicting the Persian Empire as bloodthirsty and violent, not modern-day Iranians. Big difference. Besides, the Spartans are just as bloodthirsty and violent. That's what wars are about. And I don't know what they're talking about when they say the Persians are wearing rags, because they're dressed more lavishly than the Spartans are in the movie.
I don't know. It seems like a big stink over nothing to me.

Ridiculus.
I can tell you many things crossed my mind during this movie: "[insert actor] is really hot!" "Pretty battle scenes." "I-is that Bunting from Horatio Hornblower?!" "Is that the guy off of Highwaymen?" "That part reminds me of the trolls in Lord of the Rings..." "Stab! Smash! Rarrr!"
Two thoughts that never - EVER - crossed my mind were:
1. This is completely historically accurate.
2. Those dirty Iranians! Grr!
And I mean, hello, the Persians were the only people wearing any real clothes. That part of the article confused me.

If we can't make a stink about ANY history-themed movie, then what's the point of being ornery, prickly human beings?

It's not the historical nitpicking that gets me (though that did remind why I don't bother with the imdb boards).
It's the idea that a movie based off a 1998 comic -
- and comic book movies are very big at the moment
which, in turn, is based off of something that happened almost 2,500 years ago with the Persian Empire (which went all the way to Central Asia and the Caucasus region) is some sort of western conspiracy directed at Iran. Nice paranoid egomania that is.
*huff*
