I don't understand how people keep relating this to the war in Iraq right now. Whether the US is supposed to be Sparta or Persia (which admittedly it could be compared to both,) it's not a good thing. Even though Leonidas was the protagonist, he was still kind of a bad guy. Plus the material was written in 1998. I had to stop visiting the IMDB 300 boards because so many people keep posting about this.
They also keep discussing the racist undertones they picked up. So....should the Persians all have been white? This confuses me.

People are idiots and will find an issue with just about anything you can think of. Remember the whole Teletubbies and the "homosexual undertones"? This is a wonderful film based of a great comic book. Nothing more. I'm willing to bet that the majority of the people that have seen the film have no idea that Persia was/is connected to Iran and think that this was just one badass action flick.

So....should the Persians all have been white? This confuses me. I haven't seen the movie yet, but I can tell you that the Persians weren't white, although this never seems to have any importance in my part of Europe. This is a wonderful film based of a great comic book. Nothing more. Well actually it IS based on the battle of Thermopile, so it is something more than just a great comic book, it's about a piece of history, a battle that took place, where the Persians got their asses handed to them, it's history fact...maybe those that cried foul would have wanted the Persians to win

What I meant to say was that it's based on a comic book and not on historical fact. In fact never once did the studio bill 300 as based on true events or event inspired by true events. Because of this I never cared once that just about every part of the film was over the top. It was just a damn good movie.
