Hey Rob, how *is* the Payback dierctor's cut?
I kinda thought it was an odd choice of movie to rerelease unless the director was making some pretty significant changes.

I haven't watched it yet because it's a present for my Dad. From what I have heard, the third act is significantly different, the feel of the movie is more serious and Mel Gibson doesn't start cracking jokes half-way through the movie. It becomes more like a straight-up revenge film and doesn't try to apologize or explain any of Porter's actions in the movie. I look forward to watching it.

Stardust, Titan A.E. ($5.99!!), and Enter the Dragon, which is rated R for some strange reason.

Enter the Dragon, which is rated R for some strange reason. Well, it *does* have Bruce Lee crushing a man's sternum, a John Saxon seduction scene, and naked, dopesmoking women forced into prostitution.

You see, I've been watching too much Rome. Everything else seems kinda tame in comparison.

Hey Rob, how *is* the Payback dierctor's cut? I kinda thought it was an odd choice of movie to rerelease unless the director was making some pretty significant changes. Here a review from another forum: "The director's cut and the theatrical seemed like totally different movies to me, even though the bulk of the changes don't occur until the last act. STRAIGHT UP just seemed so much bleaker and devoid of all of the camp in the theatrical cut, like the tongue-in-cheek noir voiceover stuff. The added scene of Porter smacking Lynn around was surprisingly brutal--Unger said she even cracked some ribs filming that scene. My one real gripe with STRAIGHT UP is that some segments of the new score betray the budgetary constraints Helgeland was working with. I like the new main theme composed for the opening montage (which is probably one of my favorite opening credits sequences; just a cool intro to the character), but a lot of the other stuff sounds like DTV bass-laden synthesizer junk. And the loss of "Voodoo Child" and "It's a Man's World" left a noticeable void in those particular scenes." Quote: Originally Posted by Moltisanti The feature on how the director's cut was put together was pretty interesting and enhanced by the fact that Gibson had his crazy APOCALYPTO beard during his interview. "My thoughts exactly. The special features are actually pretty comprehensive. And Mel Gibson may have looked crazy, but he surprised me in not being totally loony in the interviews. He had some interesting insights into his projection of Porter's back story." I actually really liked the new score for the movie. I also think the movie worked better without the voiceover but I will have to watch the theatrical cut to make a better judgement. Overall I would give Payback:Director's Cut a 9/10.
