No matter what the autopsy finds -I'm calling it right now- there's going to be Marilyn Monroe-ish conspiracy theories around this. Just without the Kennedys.
Mark my words.

I can just imagine the sort of publicity this unfortunate death will give the Dark Knight, too. It'll be the same sort of boost the Doors got after Jim Morrison died.

The last picture of him alive on this earth was when he was dressed as a clown. A full-suited clown with a dewrag.
Always wash your underwear, indeed...
I'm amazed no one, his friends, family, or the damn Olsen twins, could have seen this coming. Maybe it was an accident or something but... facedown in a pile of pills.... looks pretty bad.

Yes, well, he was in the middle of filming for a Terry Gilliam movie. I think that's excusable. And blinkfan, I do think his death is going to be marked as the James Dean of our generation. I think he's richly deserving of the title. Speaking of that Terry Gilliam flick, I wonder if it'll go on without him? If it does, it'll definitely gain some Crow-like notoriety. I think The Dark Knight is already going to gain that sort of notoriety, even though it's been finished.

Not to step on his grave, but how was he like James Dean in any respect? Other than dying young?
Wouldn't it be enough to be known simply for who he was?

Yeah, that's the problem I have with this James Dean comparison. By the same token, Brad Renfro is also the James Dean of our generation.

I agree with that. I think what I meant to say was that I think the comparison is valid, looking back on it.

I can remember when River Phoenix was the James Dean of our generation. I'm getting old....
As far as the Terry Gilliam movie goes, the location filming was all done, but it still had all of its bluescreen work to do. So financially it's in the middle with lots of money already invested (mostly on Ledger's name). Right now it's on hold and it looks like the insurance company's going to make the decision of whether they bin the whole thing or move forward, either reshooting with someone else or shooting around him like The Crow (but that might be harder to do with the writers' strike maybe?).

I really hope they go forward with this movie. Directed by Terry Gilliam, with Tom Waits as the Devil? Sounds like my kind of film!

Is anybody besides me a little creeped out at the similarites btween Brad and Heath's deaths? Both young actors, known for respectable roles, both found dead, no apparent foul play, within what, a week of each other? Admittedly Refro had a drug problem while Ledger never did but still, that's damn eerie.
What pisses me off is how the media is attempting to make it seem like a suicide. Every report I've read or seen on tv mentions the pills in his room. They were prescription pills because he had pneumonia! They weren't spilled all over the floor, they were in the bottle. Then they go on about how depressed and disturbed he was after playing the Joker, like that drove him off the deep end or something. The media actaully want this to be a suicide, because the story of an accidental death due to mixed meds that would be harmless by themselves doesn't sell. The guy deserves better than that.

They were prescription pills because he had pneumonia! I don't like to think it was a suicide, either, but the pills found in his room were definitely not all for pneumonia. There were 5 kinds of anti-anxiety meds, 4 of which are benzodiazepines, a highly addictive class of medication with very dangerous effects if taking incorrectly or mixed with the wrong things, esspecially alcohol. It's easy to accidentally kill yourself with that stuff, esspecially if you aren't accustomed to taking them- I have several patients (unfortunately) who have died that way. And FWIW, I don't think playing the Joker could mess you up that badly. He did, however, not so long ago end a long term relationship with Michelle Williams. Maybe the guy was legitimately depressed and ended up being prescribed too much stuff to help deal. Who knows? Honestly, I don't think we ever will. I wish the media would leave it alone, let his family grieve, and ask folks to focus their energies on praying for his 2 year old instead of solving the great mystery.

Well, part of me agrees that it sounds like a stretch, but, then again, Bob Hoskins was committed for hallucinations after investing so much time and energy talking to imaginary people on Who Framed Roger Rabbit. I imagine that the right person in the right frame of mind (or the wrong one) could get seriously messed up diving into the inner workings of the Joker.

Whatever caused him to need anxiety meds, my hope is that this gets ruled an accident, if only for his daughter's sake.
