Well, not yet. But in a few hours!
I figured I should get this thread open in anticipation of someone actually being game for doing the fan-girl/boy thing with me. Season three starts tonight! Anyone else excited? Thoughts? Theories? Etcetera?

I'm so looking forward to it. I'm on the west coast though, so I wont be posting until afterwards.
Don't know if you've seen the Lost online game over the summer but basically as you progressed to it you would unlock footage. Once all the footage was compiled it revealed the secrets of Hurley's numbers. Pretty interesting.
I am pretty confused though as to why of all people the Others chose Hurley just so they can send him back to his people. Wouldn't someone who might actually be able to figure out how to get back to the other side of the island be better? Or at the very least someone in better shape to get all the way back?
Oh and I think them all being captured was more or less of a plan that they put together after they uncovered Michael. I'm pretty sure there was a look between Jack and Kate that said "Hey, let's get into gear".

What are the secrets of Hurley's numbers? I didn't have the time to play the game.
Maybe the Others chose Hurley because they knew the other castaways would believe what he said? Some of the others, I can see why they wouldn't. Best I can come up with at the moment, anyway.
I have two questions:
1.) Was Ben actually in the book club? I said he wasn't, Duckie said he was. I thought I saw him come out of another house when the plane crashed.
2.) Did the Others remind anyone else of a cult? For some reason, they way they talked about Ben and the way Ben treated them put me in mind of Waco.

It has Spanish subs but don't mind them. www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLcoaJmc1lgI think he was but he probably acted the same way during the off hours as he does during "work" so they just did not tell him that they were meeting that day. Scientologists maybe?

Thanks for the link! That was really interesting.
I've found that, overall, Lost is one of those things I shouldn't think too hard about, or I'll end up disappointed. Since I've just been going along for the ride, I really enjoyed the season's premiere- aside from the fact it was a Jack-centric episode. Jack just doesn't do anything for me, although this was easily my favorite of his episodes. I've always thought he was too perfect- this took the shine off him and made him far more human.

I feel the same about Kate, though not that she was too perfect, but more that she was too much of a "Mary Sue" type of character.

Jack has always seemed a little unhinged to me...I've always like his back stories. But Kate is my favorite, she's done some nutty stuff and she's got that whole tortured soul bit goingon.
I think Ben was in the book club but definately wasn't invited...I wouldn't invite him, especially if I was baking.
Question: Juliette seemed torn about her job on the island, but near the end her and Ben kind of shared some sort of look...I don't know what it meant. And another question about her character is the fact that her, "favorite book" was a Stephen King novel. What does that say about her taste and psychological make-up. Discuss.

Add me to the Kate-Mary-Sue group. I'm just not a Kate fan. But rumor has it (Casting spoiler!) Nathan Fillion is going to show up in her flashbacks, so maybe I might start enjoying Kate a little more. I think my problem with Kate is I'm not a love triangle kind of girl, overall, and if I am, well... I dunno. I think it would be really, really funny if Kate did choose Sawyer and then the writers turned around and said "HA! That's NOT the real love triangle!" Rumor is there's supposed to be an outed character on the island this season, and I've assumed it was Zeke with his "you're not my type" to Kate. Now, if I was writing the show, I'd totally make Zeke attracted to Sawyer, because if Sawyer had no interest it would be funny just because he's Sawyer the equal opportunity offender, and if Sawyer is actually bi and did have interest it would still be funny, because a.) he's still Sawyer, and b.) it would be really, really funny if a guy like Sawyer had to chose between Kate and Zeke. Probably not all that realistic, but really funny. Juliette and Steven King: What I took from that was that Juliette is getting a little disillusioned with the whole Others cult. (Sorry- still stuck on the cult concept.) The guy who was arguing with her reminded me of people who think that popular can not equal high quality or deep, and Juliette struck me as someone who's been there, done that, but has come to the conclusion that yes, something that's popular CAN be intelligent, interesting, and well-written. And I think Benry there knows that Juliette's loyalty is wavering. That's my current theory, anyway. Subject to change at a whim's notice!

You know, I like this thread. It's a Lost thread that you can take your time responding to a post. It doesn't get bombarded by thousands of fans. We can just casually discuss it without drowning in fandom. Hooray for the Mutant Cafe'!
And yeah, I think it's probably some sort of cult...crazy mad scientists, like Dr. Forester or Pearl...only the island is their Sattelite of Love.

Personally I think these guys are a sort of resistence that is trying to fight Dharma. The final line of season 2 is the reason why I belive this:
Jack - "Who are you people?"
Henry - "We're the good guys, Jack."
Also I think that the video clip that I posted earlier was created by the others while they were spying on Dharma.

If they're fighting Dharma then why are they messing with the lostaways? Why don't they just talk it out instead of being all cryptic. I hate the Others, they're jerks.

Why didn't Sun go Rambo on their asses?!! Oh well. I hate the Others more and more every episode. But can they really leave the island? I have my doubts. Juliet is gonna be the coolest baddy on the show yet. She was creepy on Boston Legal and she's going to be just as nuts on this show.

I don't think Sun is much of a warrior and she is with child. Jin on the other hand seems to be a bit to handy with a gun for a guy. I guess there is a bit more left to his backstory.
I just hope that next week they go back to the original camp already. I want to know if Echo and Lock are dead or not!

POLAR BEAR POLAR BEAR POLAR BEAR.
I thought it was hilarious that there is actually a polar bear on the island. They really left us hanging though in that backstory. What happened to the cop? Locke made it sound like he did something really wrong but they didn't show anything. Charlie is such a sport always helping out...even though Locke was so mean to him.

I have to say that if they show too many more episodes like this I will not be coming back for season 4 (if there even will be one after this year ) . This was just the most randomly put together episode that I have ever seen. Pretty much everything in it felt like the writers wanted 45 minutes of something but did not know what. Normally I like the whole more questios then answers deal but this was just a complete mess. The show is quickly going from a cool sci-fi mystery to a random assortment of what the studio is hoping we will think are "Oh S**t" moments. Sorry if you don't agree but when you compare the gold that the first season was to this season one can't help but feel this way.
