Another funny thing from her game session was the revelation (after about an hour) that she wasn't the only person in the game. She tried to kill all these other blue-named people, until I told her that they were other actual players and couldn't be killed by her. Then I teach her how to type messages to them.
She promptly run-jumps her gnome up to a dwarf hunter (she LOVES jumping her gnome everywhere... it's hyperactive). The most random conversation in an online game then occurs:
HER: [typing] Hello!
DWARF: (whispers) Hi.
HER: [to me] Why'd he whisper me? I don't want guys whispering me!
ME: It's called a "tell"... it's so your conversation can't be heard by everyone. But hey, be careful, he might want to hit on your gnominess!
HER: [suddenly worried] Hm... [types] Nice bear! I'm married!
DWARF: Thanks. Huh?
And then the gnome run-jumps away.

I think I may have to get Lissa to get involved in a vid game or two... if nothing else, maybe the entertainment value will rival what Justin has experienced...

It's amusing, indeed... I've taken a very hands-off approach in introducing her to WoW, and I think it worked better than if I was hovering over her shoulder all the time. I only answer questions she asks, and she's getting the hang of it.
Of course, now she wants to steal my computer away from me to, as she put it, "show an interest in my hobbies."

me and my fiance play. cant stop her from playing either. she doesnt hop very much but loves tailoring and leather crafting. mostly she likes me to mow everything down while she follows and loots everything and skins everything.
she totally wanted to play it on her own accord and i dont think i've ever seen her happier playing anything.
i think wow appeals to a lot more people cuz its addicting without feeling like you've just got done working 8 hours when you loggoff. its a nice feeling.
theres only probably 4 games in my entire life i've actually stayed up all night playing. and im proud to call this my 4th and probably last.
do you want the list, no? oh well
tradewars (played with dad and friends) secret of mana (played with brother) ultime online (whoever could stand me) world of warcraft (fiance)
im sorry for my long shpiels. im gunna go now. bye

Not that I'll have time to play this week, but it was really cool to see Blizzard go all out to make the game fun for the holidays. The best holiday addition to WoW? Snowballs that you can buy and throw at anyone. No damage, but a satisfying THWACK for your money. Loads of snowball fights going on in the game right now.

its cool and stuff, but it can be really distracting when your trying to play and someone keeps doing it to you relentlessly. i had to tell atleast one person to stop harassing me cuz they were following me around doing it and i had no idea who they were or anything.
besides that i love seeing people have fun, esp since theres a way to turn into snowmen and dance around, people were just having a riot with that, and the alcohol. i just flat out like people having fun, as long as it doesnt interfere with me having fun. and people are REALLY having fun with this holiday stuff. this puts ultima onlines holiday stuff to serious serious shame.

Sooooooo, anyone sworn off WoW like Penny Arcade has around here? I don't have the game, but I hear all this stuff about how the servers totally suck now. So, what's true and what's conjecture?

I have no idea what all these sites (Penny Arcade, GU Comics, Ink Tank) are talking about with server queues. I haven't had any trouble getting on the Elune server that I play on. Also, the only time I get lagged up is in the starter zones when there's other servers down.

I really haven't had any problems with servers, other than the occasional 3-5 minute queues to log in. The sheer amount of server maintenance they're doing suggests a lot of rough edges they should've had ironed out a long time ago, but at least Blizzard's trying to do right by working hard to fix it and giving the customers a couple days free time.
Meanwhile, I'm still having a blast. I can't just play one class, so I have 4 characters I play (when I have the time, which is usually when PoolMan calls).
My favorite recent moment was when a dwarf rogue came up to me and challenged me to a duel (my first). I was playing my paladin, a class that's widely whined about being overpowered but whatever, so I accepted. I proceeded to whomp his butt with my Big Hammer of Mutant Ire, with using power attacks and heals. Afterwards he started whining, really whining about how I played unfair.
"Unfair, why?" I typed curiously.
"Because you used shields and heals! You should've limited yourself!" he moaned.
"Well... they're part of my skills. When you fight, you should use every tool available, right?"
"No! I could've beaten you if I used [name of some rogue skill] but I didn't!"
"Then that's your oversight. You lost. Live with it. You fought retarded, I fought smart. If you wanted to fight with one arm tied behind our backs and didn't say so, you don't get to pitch a temper tantrum afterwards."
He went running away. Poor dwarfie.

I really haven't had any problems with servers, other than the occasional 3-5 minute queues to log in. If I may ask. What server do you play on? Cause I have never had to wait in a queue to get on Elune. Not saying Elune is better, just I'm curious.

Stormrage. I signed up on the first day, so it's a very high pop server.

haha... Rich is addicted now too!
I just wish I could stick with one character instead of continually making new ones to try out all the classes...
