This here thread is the happenin' place to soliloquize about the non-Wolverines of the comic book universe. Note that most of my character references come from the early to mid-90s, back when I did the bulk of my comic book reading. So, if there are any of you who are too young or too groggy to remember back that far, you've been warned. Strong Guy (I link because I care.) To me, X-Factor's Strong Guy wasn't just a painfully misshapen lug, he was a painfully misshapen lug with heart. And sarcasm. He had a slightly modified Spider-Man personality, I believe. The point is, he made me chuckle inwardly at his sharp wit, and recoil in horror at his disproportionately tiny legs. He also has the best, or worst, superhero name known to man. FeralAh, another character from one of the non-Men X teams! Okay, I'm going to wear my geekitude like a badge for a minute, and proudly admit that my 12 to 14 year old self thought that Feral was kind of cute when she wasn't making frightening snarly faces, or being otherwise scary. (Such situations were unfortunately quite rare.) Feral also had a less hostile palette-swap of a sister named Thorn, who, judging by this picture, suffered from advanced Marveliosis of the spine. I'm fairly certain Thorn was actually Feral's 2nd player variation. Sadly, Feral turned out to be murderously psychotic, and ended up joining the bad guys. If only they had named her Civilized instead........ Deadpool (No info this time. I got tired of looking.) There's not really much to say about Deadpool. He has a cool costume, and uses lots of guns. What more do you need? If that's not enough for you, he also possesses that strange allure that all drifting gun-for-hire characters have, as well as a store-brand version of Wolverine's healing factor. Although I'm sure Deadpool did his share of bad deeds, he always seemed to be mercenating on the side of good whenever I was reading. Deadpool has the distinction of being the only one of my unsung characters who warranted his own mini-series.

Excellent topic, HB. Whether it's because I have been drinking tonight or the heart of a reformed comic geek showing through, I love this idea. So here are my contributions (please bear in mind I haven't read comics in about 6 years, so my info may not be up-to-date): Speedball: How could you not love a guy who is basically the human equivalent of a high-bounce ball? Not to mention that when he first got his own series, he kept chasing after a cat that had the same powers as him to give to scientists to study. He fought villans such as The Harlequin Hitman and The Sticker in his solo comic, but really came into his own as a member of the New Warriors. Proves that kinetic energy is fun. Vision: The original Human Torch android from WWII, combined with the personality of Wonder Man. That makes for an interesting combination. Top it off with the fact that he is married to the Scarlett Witch (yes, and android married to a human), and they successfully had a baby (with the help of a little witchcraft). These are indeed scary times we live in. War Machine: So you're Iron Man's best friend, having replaced the man inside the suit on many occasions, entrusted with his secret, and you two have a difference of opinion which splits up your friendship. What happens then? Well, if you're War Machine then your friend gives you an extraordinary suit of armor (which I find superior to the Iron Man suit) and you are allowed to go be a bad mama jama all on your own. When I saw War Machine in Marvel vs Capcom, I was too happy.

I like being referred to as HB. It makes me feel like an oil tycoon. YES! Speedball!! I should've mentioned him in my first post. In the one issue of X-Force I remember Speedball actually being in, he refuted claims of his doofusality by saving everyone's life with his kinetic shield. And then, later on, Cannonball's (It was a good issue to be a ball person.) sister became naked for some reason. In the snow. It's almost as if Marvel's primary demographic was/is teenage boys. And now, more comic book nostalgia: I distinctly remember one issue of X-Factor, wherein the first couple of pages were a Ren & Stimpy cartoon, using Wolfsbane and Feral, respectively. Freaked me right the heck out, it did. In fact, those two pages probably rank in the top five of things that have profoundly affected my life. That's so sad.

Except that those two furry girls are hot. *coughs* You know, when I first posted those links to Feral & Thorn, I thought to myself, "Kitsune will be here soon." Not that I'm disagreeing with you, by any means. I heartily concur, under the "no fangs & drool" conditions set forth in my original post. Speaking of which, here's the link to the page I yoinked those two pictures from: Run away!It has a whole bunch of pics of Feral being scary as all crap, and Thorn being generally the better-looking of the two. Note how everything from issue 88 forward sucks awfully.

Have I become that predictable, Hucklebubba? Hey, it's alright. Remember, predictability is the spice of life. Or something to that effect. Indeed. Feral and Thorn are, respectively, Maria and Lucia Callasantos.

Calla = To quiet, silence, hush Santos = Saints
*sighs*

Great list, Hucklebubba. As soon as I read the topic, I was gonna add Deadpool to the list, but you beat me to it.
I also totally agree with Strong Guy(can you tell I was an X-Fan?). Especially with the heart attack caused by his powers, Guido was the perfect example of how powers were a gift and a curse.
A lot of characters on Havok's X-Factor team were underutilized. To this day, I'm hoping Multiple Man someday joins a core team. X-Factor also really made me a fan of Wild Child, before he got his current vampire look.
Oh, and to answer Uber's question about Cannonball's sister being naked, I'll assume it's Husk. Husk sheds her skin and her clothes go with 'em.

Especially with the heart attack caused by his powers, Guido was the perfect example of how powers were a gift and a curse. Once again, in Guido, we see shades of Spider Man. "With great power comes great heart disease."

How about Arion, Lord of Atlantis? I loved his comics (years ago, far too many years...). Anyone remember him? He was in a few cross-overs, as well.

To this day, I'm hoping Multiple Man someday joins a core team. He did, sorta. He became a main character in seasons 3 and 4 of the X-Men: Evolution TV series. They took a lot of characters from other X comics and did fairly well with them. Too bad the show seems to have been cancelled.

"With great power comes great heart disease." And goggles. Y'know, Bubba, I think you and I had a lot in common in that phase of our lives. I read a lot of mid 90's Marvel, only to never really read comics all that much again, too! And we're both apparently insane!

Hey now. Let's not start picking out curtains or anything.

On second thought, let's do. I positively adore floral prints.

There are only three comic characters I need to write before I die. They are: Longshot (natch), AKA the cool Gambit; Multiple Man (doin' the things a multiple can!); and Cypher (the character you could most easily relate to is the first one killed... disturbing, anyone?) Man, I would shoot yo' momma for a chance to write a Multiple Man story. (Yeah, that's right, I said it. Yo' momma.) I actually have a decent idea and everything (yeah, yeah, I know, doesn't everybody); if only I weren't too lazy to actually write it... So, we appear to have some PAD X-Factor fans in here. Good times, good times. Anybody else read his run on Young Justice? -D
