I know November is a WAYS off, but I've been looking forward to participating in National November Writing Month for a long time now. If you don't know what it is, it's an internet-based event where aspiring novelists pledge to write a 50,000+ word novel in one month from Nov 1 - Nov 30 (more info at www.nanowrimo.org/ ). You don't get anything if you "win", other than self-satisfaction, but I really want to do this. Has anyone else done it? Is anyone planning on doing it? It'd be cool if we could get a MRFH group of writers prepped and primed for this, and then see if we can do it.

I've never heard of this, but I'm game. Definitely!

Every November for the last three years I've heard of this about a week into the month. I might give it a go this time around, but we'll see. I've been wanting to write a technical book for my own reference first, and I'm too lazy to do that.

Sounds like fun. I've been meaning to get off my duff and write something...

sounds like fun. I am trying to become a sort of writer and would love the challange. I don't know about my scheduale in November but if it doesn't look to hectic I'm in.

I've always been tempted to try, but I know my schedule... I doubt I'd be able to do it.

So, just out of curiosity, anyone still going to participating in November? I know my situation has changed a bit since Justin mentioned it back in May, but I think I'm still going to give it a shot. Who else wants to write a novel?

Alas, I have to bow out -- just no TIME. I'm settling into a new routine around here post-marriage and other stuff, and unless I was willing to give up my couple hours of gaming time a day (which I'm not), it's just not feasible to do. Maybe in upcoming years.

Sadly, I need to skip it as well. There are fewer hours in a day than I thought, and I've got too many other writing projects (like, a novel that's already largely written and needs serious editing, and a paper that needs to be done by November 15) to do this. Maybe next year. (When I have a one year old running around the house. Hahahahahahahahahahaha.)
Problem is, I have the plots. I have the ideas. I have the motivation. I just don't have the TIME.

I remember reading this thread initially and thinking it was a cool idea, but that a month doesn't seem like much time for people working a full-time job (or in my case, a full-time and two part-times ). I think I'm more a fan of Neil Gaiman's advice to aspiring writers- if I'm remembering correctly, he said you should just sit down and write, one page a day, a continuing story; and then at the end of one year, you'll have written a novel. It may be a dreadful thing that you want to shove in a box and never show another living being, but you'll at least know you can do it, and then your second one will be both easier and better. I've always meant to try it, but due to crippling laziness, never got around to it... maybe I'll give it a shot at the beginning of 2006, though. -D
