Now that Hollywood's seen that it is possible for an epic book series to be translated to a film series (in the fantasy genre, I mean), what fantasy/sci-fi series would you love to see be made into a big-screen, multi-picture adaption?
Now finishing the third book, I'd give so much to see a TV or movie adaption of the Song of Ice & Fire series... it's just nuts how good these books are.

There's been talk of it for ages, but I'd love to see the Dragonriders of Pern made into a movie/movies. Odds aren't great on that one, but....
The Narnia Chronicles could be fun as well. Or a REAL version of the Black Cauldron series. (not the Disney one!) Although I'm not sure how well Taran Wanderer would translate into film. They'd probably have the best luck with Narnia, though, because that's the one that the most people have heard of.

How about this for an epic fantasy romp "The Tick"? ;D Sorry, I'll go boot myself up the rump for that one, but what can I say? I miss the big blue lug.

There IS an animated version of The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe, but it's about twenty-odd years old. Doesn't stop it from being HELLA freaky though, I used to freak out when they killed Aslan.

I'm going to ride the silly train to crazy land, and offer the following: Crimson Skies. Sure, it's neither fantasy nor sci-fi, nor is it a music or book. So, basically, I've broken every rule. Neato.
I don't know. It just seems movie-able somehow. Plus, the whole franchise has special significance to me, as the paper n' dice version of the game played an integral part in making me realize I'm not built for tabletop RPGs. 3+ hours for one measly dogfight. Pleh. (Or, to put it another way, "Hi diddly dee, a sky pirate's life for...someone else.")

There was a live action version of the entire Chronicles of Narnia series. Or at least I was told there was. I could only find this one: www.imdb.com/title/tt0094500/

Yeah, they did a few of them for the BBC, and I recall seeing them on PBS. They did "Lion, witch, and the wardrobe", "The silver chair", and one that combined "Prince Caspian" and "Voyage of the Dawn Treader". Rumor has it there's a new adaptation of "L,W, & W" in the works, directed by the guy who did "Shrek". www.imdb.com/title/tt0363771/And this isn't quite considered fantasy, but I'm stoked for the movie adaptation of Lemony Snicket's "A Series of Unfortunate Events". It's due out XMas 2k4, and the cast is shaping up nicely. www.imdb.com/title/tt0339291/

I think the Games Workshop books and stories should be released (Man vs. Orc vs. Undead vs. Lilem vs. etc etc). In particular, the Nagash stories should be released.

I'd really like to see some of Robin McKinley's Damar stuff (The Blue Sword and The Hero and the Crown). Yes, they're filed in the juvenile section, but I still like to read them! They're very similar in feel to LOTR, which isn't surprising, considering that McKinley has said that was one of her major influences. And for people who wish there were more characters like Eowyn (IMHO, in the books Arwen is just a pretty face and is pretty boring), each book focuses on a different sword-wielding woman (they each have the same sword. Though Hero takes place before Sword, it was written later).
After seeing what a fantasy epic can look like, I have higher hopes of this one. The only thing that would be really tricky are the languages in Sword. The major character becomes fluent in a second one rather quickly. However, McKinley didn't actually write new languages, so representing that could be a challenge.

Ooh! I totally agree with you, Magill! I have read The Blue Sword maybe 20 times, and as recently as last year. It would be a fabulous movie.
As for the language barrier, maybe they could pull a 13th Warrior and have Mathin switch to English (in a blending montage) at some point to represent her attainment of fluency. Until then, they could all speak Welsh or something.

Other than that, haven't really read any fantasy except LOTR. Oh, wait I read "Sabriel", and "Shade's Children" by Garth Nix, anyone read those?

I've read "Shade's Children" and the "Sabriel" trilogy. I thought "Shade's Children" was a freaky weird story, but I like freaky stories ;D
I also heard somewhere that Garth Nix was interested in making movies out of the trilogy, but I don't know if that's really going to happen.
