I bought Meat Loaf's "Bat out of Hell 3" in store, and Tom Waits' "Orphans" and Gnarls Barkley's "St. Elsewhere" over Amazon the other day. I must now wait/suffer until Amazon sends the albums, which according to the site, will be in 2 weeks.

Had to grab the "Dreamgirls" soundtrack, since I loved the movie. Actually, I've been on a bit of a Broadway kick lately; in addition to "Dreamgirls," I found a few original cast albums on vinyl (yes, the big black disc things), including the original "42nd Street" and "Phantom of the Opera," at a thrift shop and got used copies of the original Who "Tommy" two doors down at a music store.

Just bought "Oh No" by OK Go which is pop genius; the "Urinetown: the Musical" soundtrack (not one much for traditional showtunes, I'd rather people sing about bodily fluids); and "Lincoln" by They Might Be Giants, which makes me a very happy listener indeedy!

I won a $25 gift cert for a local music store last night, and I don't think it sells DVDs. Any recommendations? My brother is a music nut, and I'm usually just ok with my Simon & Garfunkel and Barenaked Ladies, but I'd like to branch out just a bit. If all else fails I may just pick up some Ryan Adams or Damien Rice, as I've been really into them lately.

I like "Margaritaville", but that's all the Jimmy Buffett I know.
Oh, with the gift cert I also won a CD called Decouvre Tes Racines (Discover Your Roots), full of Montreal electronic dance music. Hope it's good.

The used CD store two doors down from the thrift shop where I volunteer was moving and having a big sale, so I fed my Who craving and picked up "The Who By The Numbers" and "Who Are You," along with Billy Joel's "52nd Street" and the greatest hits of big-band leader Vaughn Monroe.
I've also grabbed a whole stack of records (yes, vinyl - a quarter each, and they won't clutter your hard drive) from the thrift shop, including stuff from Gordon Lightfoot, the Bee Gees, Barbara Streisand, Kenny Loggins, the soundtrack to the Steve Martin/Bernadette Peters version of "Pennies From Heaven," and several Broadway original cast albums (the double set for "Phantom of the Opera" is gorgeous).

Just got the second Moulin Rouge! soundtrack. Not quite as good as the first, but it has "The Pitch," "Sparkling Diamonds," "Come What May," "The Show Must Go On," and "Like A Virgin," among some instrumental tunes and remixes. Plus "Meet Me in the Red Room" by Amiel which plays in the background of one scene from the movie but it's actually a pretty fun song. Overall it's definitely worth the money.
