Anybody else like Iggy and the Stooges? And yes, I know I'm about thirty years out of the loop here, but I've been really into them lately. You know: crazy-dancing-with-the-stereo-up-to-11 fanatacism.

I'm a fan of them...although I haven't heard many of their songs.
"1969" makes me wanna live in the year 1969...is that normal?

they are loads of fun to listen to (i think your boy lester bangs said something to the effect iggy wanted to have the most f**ked-up band ever in the universe, and did it [some other dude reminded me of that, since my copy of bangs' book is buried under a mound of literary theory junk right now]) and they really are all about putting great noise out there in a highly enjoyable and incredibly gross way, though all we have today is the music and not the live performances. pity.
meanwhile, iggy and the pops is one of those great bands where they're pretty obscure to the average person, so you can wow almost everyone you meet with your eclectic taste in the music. and if they're smart enough and motivated enough to research this band you're talking up, they'll experience it and really enjoy it, and then you'll be queen of the may. i've found similar success mentioning the jazz butcher (pre-conspiracy) to people (ladies) and then just smirking like the magnificent b*st*rd i am. music elitism: it works for others, and it can work for you!

Yeah, musical elitism is the best way to separate yourself from the suburban-high-school crowd. I'm even COOLER than the five kids who listen to the Ramones and Television - I listen to what the Ramones and Television listened to.
And 1969 never makes me want to live in 1969; it makes me want to live in the late seventies. I swear that's where I left my soul. You know, even though I wasn't actually born until 1988.
P.S. Kyle - which one of his books do you have? I've read "Mainlines, Blood Feasts, and Bad Taste" and currently have "Psychotic Reactions and Carburetor Dung" checked out from the library.
P.P.S. Your pretty face is going to hell.

true. for me, it's all about the late '60s and early '70s. the beatles crossed into the '70s, barely, but all the fun paranoia stuff (the prisoner!) hit in the later part of the decade. at least i briefly touched the '70s. thanks, mom and dad, for making me a "love child/never meant to be"!
i have "Psychotic Reactions and Carburetor Dung." i think i have "let it blurt" somewhere, but my crazy ex may have stolen it (she loved the music books). bangs is the man; it is too bad he got somewhat watered down in "almost famous" but at least people got a taste of his glorious essence.
but, more important, when you say "P.P.S. Your pretty face is going to hell." do you mean 1) i'm getting uglier due to encroaching age and non-use of sunscreen? 2) i'm pretty, now and forever, but i'm going to hell because of the things i've done? 3) other? 4) all of the above?
sadly, i agree.

or 5) it's the best Stooges song title I could come up with, and I needed some sort of reference to A) make me seem knowledgable and B) keep the thread on topic?

By the way: Lester Bangs is totally the man. I have him to blame for my crap-Kerouac-imitation writing style, my cough syrup habit, my musical elitism, and my bad grades (due to reading his books instead of paying attention in class). Thanks, Lester!
