I used to think they really needed to be adapted for the big screen, but, frankly, the story gets so massive after W&G that the sixth and seventh films could only be disappointments. The only way I can see it working is if the script for The Gunslinger is written with the other six films in mind; then the specific plot threads the filmmakers will want to pursue can begin to be woven into it. But that requires such a large commitment by everyone involved (the screenwriter would need to have all the scripts fleshed out at once, the financial backers would have to put their money in a pretty heavy seven-film series, and the producers would have to assume they could find directors who would rigidly stick to the script they were given) that I don't know it would be feasible. On a not-entirely-similar-but-still-interesting note, Genndy Tartakovsky (the creator of Samurai Jack and The Clone Wars) expressed interest a little while back in creating a Dark Tower toon for HBO. I don't know if he would be my first choice to helm that, but it's interesting nonetheless. The webmaster of The Dark Tower Compendium has some of his own thoughts on casting a DT movie, which is worth a look for the interested. I can't link directly to the page, but it's in the fourth "globe" under Casting Call. Al
