I also lie Eartha Kitt's version of "Santa Baby". Stay away from the Madonna one--she's got nothin on Catwoman! Never heard the Madonna version. At my job, they're playing Christmas music non-stop. There's a version of "Santa Baby" performed by some woman in a stupid baby-doll voice. It makes you never want to hear the song again...which is distressing, as Ms. Kitt performs the hell out of that song. In other words, I don't want anyone but freakin' Catwoman singing it! BTW, I'm forced to wonder how many versions of "I'll Be Home for Christmas" there are, because, so help me, I've heard at least a dozen in the last couple weeks.

I was listening to NPR the other day, and they were talking about modernizing the classics. Apparently, there's a firm out there that is taking the old hits (think Louis Armstrong, Bing Crosby et al), and remixing them to a hip-hop beat. It sounds like we'll probably hear a lot of this in the stores this year, especially from some of the trendier mall shops. Yet another reason for me to avoid visiting Old Navy

Speaking of modernizing and Bing Crosby, I saw on Bravo's "Christmas Special Special" that at one point they had Clay Aiken sing David Bowie's part in the duet with Bowie and Bing. They had Aiken nest to a piano (like in the original) and did some CGI so that it looked like Bing was standing next to him singing his part. They did more than just plop Bing in there--they switched his outfit from a sweater to a tux.
Made me want to rip out the eyes of the ad wizard who came up with that one. Let's leave the dead in peace already!
