I've not read The Stand (I've seen the movie, but that's it). I think I may just have to put it on my To Read list. Definitely gotta read The Stand, if you're into King at all... I think it's one of his better books. I place it close behind The Talisman and Misery, as one of my favorite King books. Just set aside a loooong time to read it...

I second that. The Stand looks intimidating, but is totally worth it. If you can get past opening the first page (that's always the hard part for me), it'll suck you in. Having seen the movie, you're obviously gonna know where everything is heading, but so much great peripheral stuff gets lost that it's a must-read.
Insomnia is the only long book of his I didn't finish (so, naturally, it's apparently the most important DT-related book he wrote). Rumor has it that I stopped right before it gets good, but the first several hundred pages consist of absolutely nothing happening. I got sick and tired of it. But, being a completionist, I'll have to go back and reread it some day. But I have far shorter books waiting to be read first.

The Stand is a must, and Insomnia is actually an awesome book for all its slow plodding (it took me two tries to get all the way through it).
Having read pretty much everything King, I've been searching out audio book versions to listen to in the car. King's always been a strong proponent of hearing stories read out loud (he's done a number of audio books of his novels), and I find it allows me to reapproach a book and "read" it in a new way. Slower, yet more vivid with mental images and whatnot. I'm going through Hearts In Atlantis right now.

I would also recommend From A Buick 8 on audio. Bruce Davison (Senator Kelly from X-Men) is the main narrator, but it features a full cast of voices as the speakers trade off stories. It's superbly well done and highly enjoyable. King has also done Blood and Smoke, which are three short stories about smoking written specifically for that audio collection (although I believe one has since made it's way into print). It's not his strongest stuff, but still worth a listen.
