I've become increasingly frustrated with amazon.com while trying to decide what books to buy and what to skip. Like IMDb, their customer reviews seem far too often inarticulate, one-sided, unhelpfully argumentative, or simply uninformed. There are some constructive commentaries and some rather well-spoken critics, but to get to them I find myself wasting time wading through post after post of "This is the best book ever!!!!!!!!!!1!" and "Dude, OMG don't you idiots know what total crap this is?" In a hopeful act of rebellion, I've started questing for some sort of search engine comparable to www.mrqe.com. Thus far I've come up empty handed. I realize, of course, that the internet has never been as conducive to books in the same way it's embraced movies, music, television, and porn, but I'm holding out for some kind of alternative to succumbing to my inner snob and subscribing to the New York Review of Books. Does anyone have any suggestions? Al
