Where's the button to click for "Grunge sucks!"? I Strongly disagree. If it weren't for Grunge Poison would still be huge and Bret michaels would probably be president.

You speak as though this would be a bad thing! Imagine the campaign slogan!
Bret Michaels in '08: Don't you want Something to Believe In again?
He could commemorate the 1988 Skyscraper Tour with a national day of observance (Poison and Diamond Dave, it was like an aligning of the planets)!
edited for crummy spelling

I Strongly disagree. If it weren't for Grunge...Bret michaels would probably be president. Wow, for a musical trend that didn't last very long, grunge was unusually powerful. Funny you should mention Poison, cause I just bought their latest compilation album on Amazon. Anyway, I can't vote for just one, cause I like all those bands equally. The two most influential on the list, to me, are Pearl Jam (cause it seems like everyone is aping Eddie V's constipated vocal style) and Alice in Chains (just listen to Godsmack). If Screaming Trees was an option, they'd have my vote. ;D

And of course Warrant and Motley Crue would be around somewhere.. You know I have no idea what Bret Michaels looks like, but I keep picturing Bret The Hitman Hart in a rock band.

The weird thing about grunge was that all the big "Grunge" bands were vastly different in style. Pearl Jam was most influenced by Classic rock, Nirvana was more punky, AIC was more metall-y.
Nirvana is one of my fave bands of all time, so my vote goes to them, though PJ is a VERY close 2nd

I vote Nirvana...because Kurt Cobain was the man in sooo many ways. And I can listen to all their albumns all the way through. Sound Garden was a close second for me because it was my introduction into Grunge...Black Hole sun the song and the video were amazing...Barbie on the Barbeque...come on!

All are good bands but I think you missed off "Stone Temple Pilots". As far as grunge goes, they were certainly up there with the best of them. Nirvana won my vote because they captured the 'essence' of what grunge was all about, even if they weren't technically the best. Stone Temple Pilots and Soundgarden were more consistent in their music, perhaps not in their message (if indeed they had one ). Grunge is like punk: it was over before it began yet captured the imagination of too many people for it to readily die.

I'll go with Cobain, too. Even after many years of hearing those songs, they still sort of sum up everything about the genre. Though, of course my favorite grunge band will always be L7.

Ah L7, I always forget about them. Not sure if this is true: I heard that they did the vocals for "You Suck" under the name of "The Yeastie Girls" on a Consolidated track ;D

The only "You Suck" that comes to mind is by The Murmurs, of which there can be no confusion between them and L7.
