my brother liked that really bad nu-metal "alternative" garbage. You know those bands, the white guys with braids and drunken idiots onstage in sporty caps and sneakers but baggy Jnco and Dkny pants, dumb idiots with masks and stupid "horror movie" make-up on. Who play hollow, harmony-less and melody-less loud crappy rock and whine about how their ex girlfriends all cheated on them and how they feel trapped in their "four walls." B-b-b-ut I liked it Limp Bizkit were stupid and idiotic but they made some very listenable tunes that were cool to dance to in clubs. Adema and P.O.D. did some genuinely good tunes. Spineshank did that one song that was awesome I didn't (and don't) like Slipknot. RAAAAAH!

There is really no difference between Slipknot and those other bands you like. That's one of the things that makes that kind of music so completely disposable

That's one of the things that makes that kind of music so completely disposable Apart from the fact that they sound completely different? Slipknot have their roots in traditional heavy metal. Limp Bizkit...well...aren't. Listen to them both, you'll hear the difference, even if you don't like what you are hearing...

I know this is retro, but seriously. Gary Puckett and the Union Gap. All their songs appear to consist of a guy wailing about statutory rape or an otherwise unavailable woman. They don't sound that great, and their lyrics are all the same. Adding insult to injury, they come from near where I live.

My sister as a joke had some Aaron Carter on her computer. Needless to say, I wanted to cut my ears off.

Bootsauce!
I stupidly bought "Bull" by Bootsauce at a flea market because I liked the song "Love Monkey #9". God Awful! Its been a good 10 years since I bought it and I still have not listened to all of it. Grating, grating, awful stuff.

The worst band I ever heard? Dillinger Escape Plan. They were supporting System of a Down at a gig I went to and they absolutely were the worst thing I have ever! I went with a couple of friends and one of them (a Jamiroquai/acid jazz kinda guy) had a look of sheer terror when they started playing Oh, that one hurt. DEP is one of my favs. In reference to those who hate Nickelback, this might please you just as much as it did me... www.youtube.com/watch?v=vQzhOyHTarU

I'm sorry dude, I'm not one to rag on other people's tastes but, no sir, I didn't like it. It was just noise and not good noise either! But then I've taken to shouting out of my window for kids to get off my lawn. When I say lawn, I mean the street outside my house. And when I say kids, I mean the random folk just walking by. One thing tho, DEP DID come on stage b*ll*ck-naked during SOAD's encore, so they get SOME credit. You know, for having b*lls

I sincerely don't like Destiny's Child. My sister plays their music constantly, and I usually end up freaking out and turning up Queen really, really loud to block out the noise. Maybe I'm just biased against hiphop and R&B, but I personally think that music should have at least a bit of substance to be considered good, not just an easy-to-dance-to beat. I think R&B and hip hop has as a genre has as much substance as rock does... there is plenty of rock that's derivative and without substance (kid rock, Limp Bizkit) and likewise hip hop that is creative, original and with substance (The Roots, Public Enemy, Kanye West, Missy Elliot). As a fan of political music, I think hip hop is more potent politically than rock these days, particularly because many hip hop artists are coming from poor backgrounds and their music reflects the environment they were raised in... though mainstream hip hop mostly sucks, and the really good, creative, political hip hop is indie.

I used to like Nickleback but now all their songs sound the same and Photograph is the worst song ever!!! Yeah I don't like Static-X either. I don't see why everyone hates bands like Nickelback or Simple Plan? I am a fan of all kinds of music, mainstream, underground, classic, pop, metal, rap anything... But just because an artists music is catchy or appeals to the widest cross-section of people as possible doesn't make it bad to me, I don't think... Britney Spears has got some pretty bangin tracks that i like to dance to. Nickelback and Simple Plan are unapologetically mainstream bands that write catchy songs people like. They are no Pink Floyd or Radiohead, but those are acquired tastes that don't appeal to everyone. I can't see myself going to a Nickelback concert, but I have enjoyed most of Nickelback's singles and don't find them to be as gut-churningly awful as so many people say.

Agreed. Here's a little story for you; My girlfriend hates rap and how its all "Yo! Dancers get nekkid and pop yo ass!", basically making rap songs that objectify women. My girlfriend also loves Motley Crue who have a t*t cam at their concerts and basically making songs that objectify women. I'll counter both arguments with Exhibit A "Public Enemy" and Exhibit B "Rage Against The Machine". So, to close my argument, ANY form/genre of music can be derivative but not all music from that genre is.

fun story... in 2002 I got tickets to see the 'new' Guns N Roses in Philly and ended up in a riot when Axl didn't show up. I was pinned to a soundboard by large people and had to be rescued. Fun times. IN any event, in the 3 hours of waiting for GNR to actually play prior to the riot, we got to hear Mixmaster Mike from Beastie Boys spin for about an hour and a half AND Camp Kill Yourself. Camp Kill Yourself was just indescribably bad. And they decided it would be a good idea to do a hard rock version of 'Santa Claus is coming to town' and added the lyric "and he's gonna KILL YOU!!!!!!!!"
