emo music is horrible. it's mtv produced bull crap. fall out boy, hawthorne heights, and panic at the whatever are some of the worst excuses for "music" i've ever heard. and what's with the stupid pseudo-witty extremely long song titles? ew. *Ahem* MTV is probably the worst place to look to for emo music. None of those bands are even close to real emo; they've only gone mainstream for being somewhat catchy and willing to change their styles for money. REAL emo is found in bands like The Get Up Kids, Sunny Day Real Estate, and Armor For Sleep. And Rise Against isn't emo. They once had a punk feel, but have gone poppy with popularity.

I actually like Panic! at the Disco. I Write Sins, Not Tragedies is actually my least favorite song on the album. Otherwise, I can listen to the whole album. I like the variety of instruments they use especially on the last half of the album. The long song titles don't bother me so much. I just pay attention to the music.
Another band that I'd recommend giving a listen to is Paramore. They're more pop-punk than emo but they're really fun to listen to. Some songs to check out are Pressure, Emergency, and Hallelujah. They also have a female lead singer which you don't see that often. She has a really good voice for being only about 17 or 18.

hooray!
more suggestions! more suggestions! i love it!
according to my friend, the promise ring's album 'very emergency' is very good, but it is also one of the central releases that serves as a tentpole for the emo movement/sound/culture and changed music essentially on its own, since after it came out a TON of other bands started to emulate and copy it, all of which lead to crying dudes and dudettes with chunky lopsided hair.
is that good or bad? is my friend insane? all i know for sure is: i must download that album (unless one of my ex-girlfriends burned it for me and it's in one of my 'haven't listened to THESE yet cd cases). to itunes!

How come people always blame MTV for bad music? Although I think all of the best music came from the 60s and 70s, pre-music videos, the station has really opened up new doors for the music world. There'd be no Madonna, Michael Jackson, or *gasp!* Bon Jovi. And I don't care if you like pop music or not, you have to admit you love all of these artists at least a little.
The sad truth is, rock and roll will not live forever. It already died, just at the end of the 70s, and MTV came a couple years after that. Of course it does bother me that they hardly even show videos anymore, it paved the path for a new type of art: the music video, a perfect blend of song and images.
Back to Emo Kids: I personally happen to like the popular, less "emo" music. Probably because it's closer to pop and I have a guilty pleasure for good pop-rock. That's why I love Fallout Boy and can't stand the "real" stuff.
Hot Topic is considered a poser store because it's owned by the Gap, which is the least alternative notion ever. But I have no shame; I admit I do shop there for Harry Potter/Napolean Dynamite gear because no place else near me sells the stuff they do.
One last note to throw out there: The kids who realized that emo was the new cool trend in counter-culture and hopped on board can be very annoying, but the real emo kids (the ones who were into it three years before it hit MTV) that I know are really pretty cool. And not sad at all, oddly enough.

The sad truth is, rock and roll will not live forever. It already died No. No. You're wrong. The kids who realized that emo was the new cool trend in counter-culture and hopped on board can be very annoying, but the real emo kids (the ones who were into it three years before it hit MTV) that I know are really pretty cool. And not sad at all, oddly enough. If they're not sad...why are they whining? I won't deny I loved singing along with Dashboard when that first, acoustic album came out back '03 (?Swiss-army Romance?) but when he got a whole band and there started to be more and more bands like it...It became not cool. at. all. The same would probably go for a lot of other bands that's style is so easy to imitate. Another reason for me abruptly not liking that album was when a friend of mine asked me, "You know those lyrics are heart-felt and all...but how would you feel if you were the girl he was singing about?" Answer: creeped out. I couldn't listen to it anymore...it's just creepy. Dealing directly with the songs on that album, I would not want someone I broke up with to be that obsessed...it's not healthy and may warrant legal action.

yeah: rock and roll will never die. it will just go on life support every so often, to the point that we all think rock and roll is dead.
i don't think people come down on mtv for bad music. the thing that gets everyone mad is the distinct lack of music on mtv. and the few times i do catch tunes on there, there are info scrawls and pop-up balloons and idiots screaming over the videos. wtf?
let's not get away from the true purpose here, which is to say: GIVE ME EMO MUSIC SUGGESTIONS! or awesome music suggestions to sway the emo drive. help me!

If they're not sad...why are they whining? That's my point. The music is whiney, the kids who listen to it aren't. (well, some of them are, but not those I was talking about.)
