New thread.
So basically this thread is for those bands that you would never listen to if it weren't for your friends. For me it's the bands:
Shinedown Revis Tool.
The first two are my current favourite bands and were majorly the bands I listened to as I read Stephen King's It. (Which I finished today and was amazed by it and now I can finally see why Justin hates the miniseries.)

I fully blame my roommate for getting me into my two favorite bands of all time, Queen and The Police. I knew of their biggest hits before, of course, but she got me into listening to more of their stuff and got me completely hooked on both.
Classic rock forever!

My brother is into music like no one I've ever met. It's kind of insane. Yet he hates 99% of the music I like, and I can't stand most of what he likes. (Come to think of it, I think maybe Leonard Cohen is the only artist everyone in my family likes.) But every once in a while, probability's got to win out, like the time he sent me Magnolia Mountain by Ryan Adams, who is now in at least my top 5 favourite musicians.

Tool is one of mine too. My first experience of Tool was seeing them live at a festival. The sound was muffled and I only heard songs from the "Latarelus" album, and I wrote them off as a band I wasn't interested in. However my friend went on so much about Tool and how much they influenced him throughout his life that I got the Aenima album and never looked back.
I guess the biggest Friend Recommendation band when I was at college was White Stripes, when the "Blood Cells" album was out. Of course, they got more famous and less good with the next album.

Never would've given Carbon Leaf a shot except my friend Alex pretty much forced me to listen to them. Now they top my "Most Played" list om iTunes. Kudos to my high school friend Beth for getting me into JUNIOR SENIOR & Supergrass.

Tally Hall Mindless Self Indulgence Radiohead
Pretty much every band I've gotten seriously into has come from a friend's influence.

Who hasn't heard of Blind Melon? I mean, really. No Rain is all over the place, but I have to give huge credit to my friend for showing me that the band really has/had so much more to offer. All I have to say is "wow". Oh, and "thanks".

My driving instructor got me into Iron Maiden a few years ago. Learning to parallel park while "Run to the Hills" blasts from the car speakers? AWESOME.
