Why not add a talkback section for each review and feature (like they do on aint it cool) so we can all add our opinions to the piece?

I thought that was the point of this forum.

That pretty much is why we created this forum.

Perhaps funkymartini meant that you should add a forum-like element to the bottom of each review page, so that the comments are right there?
I've seen it done elsewhere, but it seems like it would be hard on code and moderation alike.

Yup, I assumed that's what you were thinking. The main problems are that it is a little annoying to code, and it effectively spreads out the forum to every review page instead of keeping it nice and neat and bundled up in one spot. The reason we originally did start the forums, way back when, was that we wanted readers to be able to have their own say about movies we've reviewed. Post their opinions, own reviews, what have you. Interesting Fact: when we were first talking about the possibility for the forum, Pooly was dead set against it

That's true. I really was. As you can tell, however, I've since changed my mind.

Also, he was dead set against sucking on the cow statue's teat. But he'll crumble on that, too. Just give it some time...

I love that the man with the most ridiculous number of posts was against it at the start. Bitter? Me? No, no, the fact that I will never come close to the posting competition in no way invalidates me as a person... I'll be in my room.

Why were you against it Poolman?

To be perfectly honest, it's because I had signifcantly lower expectations of who would show up to chat.
You have to understand, at that point in time I was dillydallying in Penny Arcade's Phorum, which is a cold, hard place to be, comparitively. There are cool things going on there, but it's just so... mean. Like I said about online multiplayer gaming, anonymity and an audience breed a TON of jerks on the internet, and I was watching them bait and torment each other full time. Flame wars, name calling, nasty arguments about nothing... it was really offputting. You could surf ten threads and only find one that was really worth reading.
When J and I started talking about having an online Forum, the PA Phorum was my model for an internet forum, as it existed in my head. And I'm sorry, but if this place was going to end up like that one, full of people flaming and being just utter asses to one another, then I didn't want it.
As it turned out, we got a great group of people here. Right from the start. And the rare few who have come by for the purpose of stirring up crap have left in reasonably short order, because there was nobody dumb enough here to rise to the bait.
As far as I'm concerned, the MRFH Forum is a template for how online chats should be. Which is why I'm so into it now, and why I'm so vocal about how much I like our crowd here. Yeah, my postcount is nuts, but it's because you're all good folks to just chat with. Even arguments here are well under control and intelligent. It never descends into anything personal, and people here just respect one another. I'm very, very happy about that.

But yeah, I think we're all very pleased with how the forums evolved. From the shoddy first one, to the Delphi, to this one... and all the fun conversations we have. Personally, I like it because it removes that "aloof" feeling you get when you run a website and have little to no interaction with the people you're writing for. It's great to get involved, and to see a small but vibrant community grow.
Plus, where else would Pooly get to torment me better than this place? He has to PAY to come see me, but on here, he can post dwarf tossing, Justin boobie pics like there's no tomorrow.

Oh yeah, I went to the PA forums once. Stayed for one argument. No one was spending the time to even read my posts in their entirety. Jerks.

What I'm finding highly amusing are the arguments that are on an etiquette forum that I read every now and then. It gets pretty ugly.
Don't ask why I read an etiquette forum.
