Just wanted to give a quick shout out to the Mutants for having the guts to put their childhood mugshots up on the 80s movie memories thread. That took guts, as we all know how much people usually hate older pictures of themselves. Also, a special thanks to Lissa for reviewing one of my favorite 80s movie memories: "The Philadelphia Experiment". I've loved that movie since I first saw it, as well as it's mirror-universe companion "The Final Countdown" ( IMDB link in case you're curious). Mmmm, schlocky movies. You gotta love them.

Aww Thank Vee, actually. It was her mention that got Duckie to force me to watch it! (Although I admit, it was a fun movie, and something every aspiring mad scientist should see.)

... and I started to plant the idea that Lissa should review The Final Countdown as well. Maybe you'll get your wish, Uber!!!
Methinks Lissa should have chosen Time Travel flicks as her new years' resolution... we seem to have sidetracked from the musicians-turned-actors section of the rental store...

Like you're really complaining. Wanna watch Crossroads? Huh? Huh?

I found a copy of "Cool as Ice" at a garage sale, Liss. You know you're jealous. It's sitting right next to my Wal-Mart discount bin "From Justin to Kelly" DVD.
What I'm trying to get at here, is I applaud the misguided pop-star idea. The pop-stars are misguided, not the idea, I mean.

I'm not sure which would scare me more... Crossroads, Glitter, or Cool as Ice. I had totally forgotten about the last one, somehow had purged it from my memory...

Totally jealous I actually want to do a few where it WAS a good idea for the pop star to try acting. Dune comes to mind- especially given that I've never seen it and always wanted to. Too bad Men With Brooms doesn't really count. The Tragically Hip were there, but they weren't really acting. Just throwing rocks down ice.

Trust me, you do NOT want to see Dune(1984). It is a confusing load of David Lynch crap. Instead check out the far better "Frank Herbert's Dune", a miniseries that the SciFi channel made that tells the story in every better way that you can imagine. It was so popular that they made a sequel series, based on Frank Herbert's later Dune books called "Children of Dune", which is also excellent. Both series are now available on DVD, so you might want to check them out at your local video store! ;D

But she's going for singers-turned-actors, not "Dune" authenticity. You're both looking at the movie for different reasons.
Lissa, don't forget that Tina Turner was in "Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome".
And if you can find a copy of it, "Never too young to Die" is a must. An 80s spy movie starring John Stamos and Vanity, with Gene Simmons as the villain - an evil hermaphrodite intent on poisoning the world's water supply. (Yes, sadly, I also own this one.)

When we went to the vid store last month, we grabbed a bunch of movies, including Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome... but had meant to pick up the first movie instead. We didn't get around to watching it then, but considered renting it again, sometime in the future. So, I think we're gonna have to go through the Mad Max series in order soon... although I did see Thunderdome before the first movie, and was able to follow it just fine ;D And, Labyrinth was listed during our singers-turned-actors brainstorming session at year's end, so maybe we'll have to rent that as well

If we're going for musicians turned actor, then may I also say that no collection is complete without a copy of "KISS Meets the Phantom of the Park". Just picture those guys trying to act.
Of course, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band was pretty atrocious, too. The musicians were so bad that they didn't even get to speak their own dialogue. They had George Burns dub narration over the entire movie.

'Help' starring the beatles was kinda stupid-funny, but really entertaining. Ringo Starr definitely has some comic flair. Oh and I heard 'A Hard Day's Night' was great, but haven't seen it.

how about a crossroads-glitter-on the line triple feature? Jeebus. It took me AND Justin working together just to survive Crossroads. Forget a tripleheader. Forget it.
