after seeing volume 2, i gotta say: i love the kill bill. the kill bill is good.
but now i must ponder: do i buy both volumes now, or do i wait till like christmas or so when you just know they're going to release the first in a volley of special editions and director's cuts? should i buy volume 2 now as is and go into la tomorrow to search for the imported japanese cut of volume 1 with more gore and with everything in color (especially the house of blue leaves)?
help me, mutant monkeys! you're my only hope!

Wait, definitely. Get the real deal. Don't settle for individual discs, lacking the meat. If you want to watch it, go rent it as is, but wait for the purchase!

Yeah. Definitely wait for a purchase. When the Special Editions come out, there should be gobs more goodies included. As is, there isn't very much cool stuff on them.

Having made the plunge myself I have to say, wait and get the extra goodies. both of the individual discs have far to few things to recommend an actual purchase.

Luckily I enjoyed both movies so much, they gave me a high that made me oblivious to the lack of extra features.
Plus I only rented them, so no skin off my buttocks, anyway.

Now wait- aren't we talking about Mr. Kyle "I get the early, bootleg DVDs with just the movie, 'cuz I don't need no stinkin' special features" here? I'm shocked -- SHOCKED -- to hear this talk of director's cuts and special editions and whatnot. Why, in my day...
-D, who'll be waiting himself...

the whole thing is this: kill bill vol. 1 didn't do overwhelming stuff for me. uma is okay, the two snake members she faces are lackluster, and truth be told i haven't really seen it. the only parts i've watched with full attention (and watched a few times) is the go-go stuff. go-go is . . . wow . . .
so i wasn't going to buy anything kb till i saw vol. 2. and vol. 2 was incredible, and makes vol. 1 better by the strength of its connection. my thought was to buy both volumes this week, since dreaded walmart has vol. 2 for the cheap and i can give up a few bucks to get vol. 1 at "normal" shelf price.
having said that, since i found out almost immediately (months before i saw vol. 1, i think) that the japanese cut is full color all throughout and has some extra scenes (more gore!) and different camera angles (more art!), i wasn't going to just buy a us bootleg. i must have the real kill bill, with everything in color and full of gore and both arms getting chopped off! plus, i don't mind bootlegs of movies where the visuals aren't that important so i don't mind fuzziness or blips, but for a movie like kill bill vol. 1 where i'll be scrutinizing the go-go portions of the film over and over and over again, i need crisp, clear, studio-release quality! yeah!
meanwhile, drew, didn't you take a swipe at grant morrison a little while back? hmmm . . .

meanwhile, drew, didn't you take a swipe at grant morrison a little while back? hmmm . . . Well... it's possible. Hey, I like Morrison; Animal Man kicks the ass, and JLA was mostly really good. (Just don't mention World War 3.) It's when we get into New X-Men territory when I start to say, "Hey, this isn't quite getting it done anymore. Where's Claremont or David?" -D
