This belief is presently visible in the kind of educational theory that has girls and boys segregated into different classrooms, where girls can have "social time" and boys can have "exercise time." (I can just picture if it had been this way when I was in school. "No, Shalen, you cannot go look at bugs. Go sit with the people who hate you and pretend you're interested in hair.")
Even in co-ed schools, often one theory wins out--usually the female side of it. There's starting to be a bit of a backlash to how current educational theories attempt to force boys into something similar to girlish behavioral ideals, but I digress...
voting (they might get PMS and make a bad decision).
You made that up, didn't you? I have never, ever heard anything even close to that argument.
***WARNING - Flame instigating opinion below***
Music to my ears--er, eyes? Gah! stupid text based conversations getting in the way of my non-creative, semi-pointless sentences!
All that being said, I have one simple thing to say about soldiers. They are contract killers. I don't believe that what they do is morally right, in any way.
Disclaimer: I have less against military personnel than Bladestarr/Philotix does--while I am a pascifist, I'm the most violent one you're ever likely to meet; I carry a knife and I'm prepared to use it if need be. I'm going to be working for the Navy for most of my professional career, I technically work for the Army now, my brother actually makes those robots Lissa mentioned, and several of my class mates are in the Navy or Coast Guard.
Now that that's out of the way...
As long as we're sharing peeves about the military, here's mine:
- The way everyone sucks up to them, well beyond what is appropriate for someone who probably joined when the chance of seeing action was nil and who probably joined mainly for college money. Even if they joined for all the noblest of reasons, the sucking up is still borderline ridiculous.
- The way current enlistment ads (and many actual people) imply or outright state that the only path to self-realization, confidence, discipline, and an exciting career is through the military.
- The way a lot of them--mostly the lower ranks--don't know how to behave in society anymore. These are the kind of people who plan ahead to go to a bar specifically to start a fight.
- The way they usually win those fights, despite the fact that--by every indication I've had--they have roughly the same martial arts training as a green-belted student at my old martial arts school. I assume their proficiency is a function of more extensive drilling with the five moves they're taught, and the blood alcohol content of their opponents, but there is much they're simply not taught.
Ok, so that didn't really have anything to do with anything, but I wanted to rant.
