A real serial killer, Ed Gein, inspired both Psycho and Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Also Wild Bill from Silence of the Lambs. "Based on true Events" is meaningless, just look at Lifetime. Which has always struck me as odd, because as I recall, it was always in doubt whether the real Ed Gein actually DID kill anyone or just exhumed the already-deceased (including his mother, hence Psycho). But then, that does make a good example of what I was talking about.

But then, that does make a good example of what I was talking about. Actually he committed at least two murders and was suspected of more.
