i can't decide.
on the one hand, i grew up watching star wars on vhs and saw empire and jedi in theaters (though i was just a wee baby who didn't know what he was seeing), and probably saw the trilogy a combined 1,000,000,000 times while i played with my kenner star wars toys and turned those empty wrapping paper cardboard tubes into lightsabers. star wars was the scene, baby!
on the other, i burned out my sw love with a billion viewings of the movies. once i hit high school, i discovered the mystical world of girls and romantic rejection. i'm not saying girls and star wars cannot co-exist. i am saying that none of my friends were big sw-junkies, and i was moving onto other life-defining pop culture planes (bond!), so even the special editions were semi-exciting, but not really.
amusing side-note: a bunch of us went to see empire special edition drunk, and got drunker as the film progressed. most of us passed out (we were feather weights) and for the next few years i thought the "girlie scream" was some weird injoke that i'd never understand. don't drink, kids.
even typing about the dvd is getting boring. i think i'll pass. i reserve the right to hit a midnight sale at best buy, watch them all night long, and tomorrow be like "hey, i was just playin', yo." but i doubt it. is anyone else taking a stand against star wars, or is it just (potentially) me?
besides, i've got to save money for that ipod! t-minus 12 days and counting till i head out to the south coast plaza store (it's the best one around, imho) and take the plunge, battery conspiracies or no. so my only purchase on 9/21? mean girls! you know it!

I'm taking a stand against Star Wars, but only because I'm saving my money for Sims 2.
Shut. Up.

Hey, I got Sims 2, and it rocks. I'm all about torturing... I mean NURTURING these nifty critters.
And you can just BET I'm going to make a Sims 2 MRFH office, make all 8 of the Mutants, and see what happens. Expect pictures and massive deaths.

I'm not a big jedi-pretending convention-attending Star Wars geek, but I do love the movies and hope that I can own them someday-- but like most SW geeks, I have a problem with the changes to the movies. I'm not a demanding person, I only want two changes reversed:
- Han shoots first - The musical sequence at Jabba's hideout with the god-awful CG frog-woman is REMOVED.

Are our virtual selves allowed to venture outside? Because if mine doesn't have access to les femmes, I predict violence within... ah, say 36 hours. Okay, 20. (And yeah, definite Star Wars. I'd rather have the original versions, but the changes won't ruin it for me, and I know I'll get them eventually; might as well be tomorrow when it's cheapest at Best Buy.) -D

I'm not going to buy them.
However, they are at the top of my Xmas list. So, there.

My plan is to painstakingly recreate all 8 mutants, shove them inside a movie-themed office/house with no external doors, and see what happens.
Yes, there will be screen shots. We may even introduce a movie star or two if the opportunity presents itself.

I wholeheartedly condone while at the same time being disturbed and sickened by Justin's wonderful idea.
We need a blow by blow accounting of our actions.
And to stay on topic, Lucas has scammed enough money out of me already. You have to draw the line somewhere - I'm drawing mine RIGHT HERE.

"This is the true story of eight film reviewers, picked to live in a house and have their lives taped, and find out what happens when Mutants stop being polite and start getting real."
-D, fully expecting to give Puck a run for his money...

On Star Wars DVDs:
I'm so torn on this. I would really, really love to have a DVD collection of the Holy Trilogy. And as Drew pointed out, they're only going to be cheapest right now.
But (and I've got an article coming up as soon as J releases it on this very theme) I just can't enjoy so many of the changes Lucas made. Yeah, they're "his" movies. But you know what? When people have twenty years to fall in love with something, they tend to frown upon changes to that thing. Greedo shooting first isn't the end of my world, but the fact that Lucas felt the urge to go and alter such a memorable scene at all, no matter what his intent, just bothers me. These are my favourite movies ever, why do they need changing?
I think I'll end up with them at some point down the road. But it's important that we don't just rush out today and buy them. If we're going to send a message to good ol' George, it should be that we only accept what has been given to us grudgingly. Rushing out and setting sales records is only going to make things worse.
On MRFHSims:
Dude. That is just so funny. I'm really, really waiting for you to do this.

Pooly's article will be posted this week... stay tuned! Last week was a bit too hectic for the normal "super Thursday" update, alas.
MRFHsims might be up in a few weeks, depending on how it goes and how much I can juggle 8 characters at a time. I might split them down if the computer chugs, into two groups of 4. We'll see.

Attractive movie stars, please?
As long as this doesn't turn into American Mutant and we don't break out the karaoke machine, this should be fun!
