So, which part of the Blue Ridge Parkway are you visiting? I've been along much of it, thought it was excellent during the fall. You've picked a good time of year to check it out... My God, I think we're doing all of it. I know we're going through Maggie Valley and Boone, and I'm twisting my parents' arms to let us check out the Brown Mountain Lights, since I like corny stuff like that. And once again the thread meanders...

And once again the thread meanders... I've done a good bit of the Blue Ridge Parkway, but never at one time. That's quite a feat, in my opinion... I did spend a few nights in a cabin, in Shenandoah... does that count as keeping us on-track with this thread?

I went to a few surf camps as a kid up and down the East Coast of Australia (where I lived) but never anything on the scale of what you see in the movies (and Hollywood never exaggerates right?)
I'm a surfer so naturally I became a Lifeguard then when I finished highschool all I wanted to do was....well....nothing. Fate had it's way and I saw an advirtisment for Camp Counsellors in the US. I figured Double Summer, can't go wrong. So for the last four summers I've been a Lifeguard at a Girl Scout camp in a State Park in NY. Thinking of going for a fifth year but managment just changed and the woman who is in charge now makes Colonel Klink look good.
On a whole though the camp is good - it's your typical rustic cabins/big lake/campfire singing/s'more making girl scout camp. We even had cookies!
Had to edit to share some of the pranks ala the original question (this is why I lurk, I have the attention span of a goldfish). It's mainly counsellors on counsellors here are some of the common and not so common (I have photos of all the followuing events including the negatives.) a/. Toilet papering and shaving cream. This is a given. It's also cheap and mainly used by the CIT's (counsellors in training).
b/. Turn a cabin upside down - basically you walk in and everything is upside down beds, shelves, emergancy exit signs.
c/. Sew a cabins clothes all shut (i.e at the sleeves of a tee shirt)
d/. Tie someones bed to a tree.
e/. Lash two canoes together empty out a cabin and set it adrift.
f/. Board up a cabin door (saftey issues be damned)
g/. In the middle of the night go up to some poor sleeping sods window and bang. Bang really loud. Make bear noises if you want as well
h/. (inspired by that scene in Toy Soldiers) transport the Camp Directors office to the dining hall.
i/. Just about anything can go up the flagpole.
.....There's heaps more, I just can't remember them right now. Hope this answers the original question a bit better.
Not too sure what I've done, but I posted this then deleted it then posted it again. I think. Apologies if this shows up multiple times.
