The topic isn't so much morality as heroes. That's why the Borg and the Master and the Cylons don't fit into the category of anti-hero. The audience is not meant to be rooting for them. That doesn't mean they have to be un-understandable, but you're meant to want the Enterprise, Dr. Who, and humanity to win. And for Roslin and Papadama to hook up, because come on, how can you not? For me, it's not necessarily a matter of morality. It's a matter of charisma. Going to the Firefly verse, take Jayne. Jayne is considered one of the good guys. Jayne does a lot of things that I would never, ever condone. He kills, he's agreeable to torturing people, he hurts people, and he betrays people. And yet, lots of people- myself included- love Jayne as a character. It's all charisma. It's the fact he's funny, even if that humor is crude. And it's the little things they slip in. It's really hard to hate a man who sends money to his impoverished mother and wears the hat she made him.

Once again going back to the T-800 or Edward Scissorhands, I'd have to say charisma or not I can't blame them for doing evil simply because they don't know what evil is. I do have a biased opinion because I always root for the bad guy or whoever is against humanity. The enemy of my enemy is my friend. Generally one of the most polarized views on good and evil is the Jedi Order. There are few anti-hero Jedi. Qui-Gon maybe classified, but he really didn't do anything bad so much as refused to listen to orders (which I agree with, the Jedi on the field knows what needs to be done, not the council on a different planet.) This is why the Sith are more interesting. Sometimes they're evil for a reason. Ulic Qel-Droma is one of my favorite characters because he's basically everything. Hero, anti-hero, villain, anti-villain, destroyed man and lesson to be learned. He's chillin' in deep space, a mask is over his face He bounty-hunts for Jabba Hutt to finance his Vette. Ok, you both get the thumbs up for that one.
