but I just had a reality check on how much time I'm spending on the forums here. I've posted on a number of threads lately (most of which I've killed, lol. THREAD KILLER!) and I keep refreshing the site, checking every category, looking to make sure no one's replied, leaving the site for a while, coming back and refreshing some more. I'm actually looking forward, during my day, to coming home and sitting on this computer and seeing responses to (in my feeble opinion) witty comments or observances I made and reading such comments from others. I don't even know you people and you are taking up all my time!  So...yeah I felt pretty pathetic when, moments ago, I checked up on a particular thread for the umpteenth time and was like "what the heck? I wrote this days ago. Is the thread that dead?" I checked when I wrote the comment and, ...this is great..., I wrote it 24 hours ago!! What is wrong with me? I need to see a support group or something. I'd probably get addicted that that too, though. Isn't just delicious irony that I am posting in a forum about how I'm spending way too much time in said forum? |

I do the exact same thing on the City of Heroes forums, so don't feel bad. I USED to do the same thing with these forums.... until everyone stopped posting as much as they used to. Now I only check it about a dozen times a day... ...that's all.  I think it's perfectly normal. Then again, I also think that it's perfectly normal to stop a purse snatcher with a FIREBALL... so maybe I'm not the best person to ask.  |

BCWC, I do exactly everything you mentioned in your original post, and have been for years. During that time, I've never even flirted with the idea that I was the one with the problem, but have wondered agape at the sluggishness of my fellow forumites on a more or less daily* basis.
And it's all thanks to a patented mental discipline I call Focused Positive Re-Purposing, which I made up just now, and which only vaguely makes sense, but is damn catchy.
I'll give you an example of how it works: I have observed obsessive-compulsive tendencies in my own behavior, which I could very well acknowledge as such, and take appropriate action. But why go to all that hassle when I can simply claim to be exceptionally meticulous, thorough and tidy?
Voila! It's effective, it requires next to no effort, it's cost-free, and best of all, it lets me feel superior to normal people. If it gets any better than that, I'd love to know how.
Seriously though; No, you are not weird or wrong. And if you have to be addicted to something, you could certainly do a lot worse.
On that note; Focus group addiction is as real as it is deadly, kids. Keep away from that mess.
