Pretty cool. Kind of funny that one of your links is basically a gripefest, though.
The DS is quickly becoming my favourite gaming device since the Super NES.

I don't quite understand the point of buying games again. On the DS I suppose it's a feasible purchase because it's portable, but the PSP (as much as everyone hates the thing and it has fallen from grace) can hold data and emulators. Anyone can easily make a Rom of a game they already have with a little MacGyvering, but other than that I don't feel ashamed of downloading a rom of a game I own.
The virtual console, however, is far more sinister a beast... Worthy of neither glory nor salvation. Let's buy games we already have for 25 bucks. While we're at it, let's buy games that we could buy at the local game store (run by average joes looking for average profit) for 5 bucks. Better yet, let's play them on a console which uses 20 times the power capacity and wastes batteries with wireless controllers.
I mean, please, somebody, correct me on what I'm missing? I'm just honestly confused by it. Chrono Trigger was an awesome game, I'm glad we can all unite on that fact but does it deserve to be bought 10 times?

I must admit, I do feel a pang of remorse every time I pay Nintendo five dollars for a game they released that I can download in 12 seconds and play immediately using the rechargeable batteries in my wiimote, when I could instead spend $4.03 in gas driving to a small, struggling mom n' pop store like EB Games or Gamestop and give them the same amount of money for a game -- if they have it -- from an ancient system that takes a half hour to start and then only works in 8 minute spurts before resetting and forcing me to bang on it with my fist like the Fonz, only less effectively.
But somehow, I soldier on.

$4.03? Man, I wanna live in your state.

You definitely do. Actually, it was $3.99 a gallon today*.
And, of course, you don't have to get out of your car to pump the gas yourself like a savage... the attendant does that for you.
*And if right now you're thinking, "Wow, Drew, I'll bet you never thought you'd see the day where you were bragging about how gas is 'only' $3.99," then you, my friend, are correct.

$4.03? Man, I wanna live in your state. Try country.I actually do wish I could buy more from mom n' pop places (disregarding the whole reincarnated game thing for a minute). I had a friend a few years ago who had an indie games store that he ran well past the point where the presence of EB and Gamestop made it a sane practise, but the truth is even though he had the most loyal customers and we loved him, he didn't get the schmucks with the screaming kids and money leaking out their ears that frequent EB all too frequently. It's so sad to me that the neighbourhood games store is all but toast. And going back to the point, I actually like having the remade games available on the DS, especially all the recent retreads of the Final Fantasy series. Now they're portable (hooray for business travel) and frequently have updated graphics or refined gameplay. That's enough for me right there. I DO wish they'd rerelease Final Fantasy Tactics (the original) on DS instead of the Advance series... they're good games, but the original Tactics had waaaay better stories.

Well, tell me this, Rett. How many times has Nintendo milked the Chrono Trigger cow?
Once. When it was released for the SNES. Copies go for $45 on up to well over a hundred for a boxed copy. And that's with a 15+ year old save battery in there.
Or I could buy the PlayStation compilation CD that packaged it with a Final Fantasy game, except I don't have a PS anymore.
Or I could download the ROM illegally.
Or I could just wait patiently for my favorite high school video game to come to a platform I actually have. So, I'm not too conflicted with Nintendo doing this, especially since they are adding a new dungeon and retooling it for the DS.

Well, tell me this, Rett. How many times has Nintendo milked the Chrono Trigger cow? Well, to be fair, give it time. Anything that bears milk, Nintendo will suck dry. Love them, but not so much I can't realize that's true. Although you want a real laugh, try Capcom. There are 73 Megaman games in existence, if you count all the X, Zero, Star Force etc spinoffs. And this is not counting direct remakes and cell phone games (of which there are another 33!).

That is incorrect, PoolMan. There has actually only been one Megaman game.
They just remade it 72 times.

Love them, but not so much I can't realize that's true. That's more the point I was trying to make. As far as all your gas arguments are concerned: You don't have to drive to the store to buy one game, every time, and there are such things as... bikes. Also I fail to see how this differs from driving to the store to buy Super Mario World 8 which is the same as 1-7 except they added one new character and it's on the DS and it has maybe one new feature. When a super nintendo game that has been classified as obsolete costs as much, or more, than a current game, I instantly call shenigans and will just download it. At that point, you're probably not making Nintendo or a local game store any money, because those people are sane and will sell for sane prices. You're dealing with comic book guy-esque guys who will overprice everything that received higher than a 9.5 in Game Informer's Retro review section. Ironically, if they were to somehow sell their souls on Ebay, a reserve price of even 1.50 would hardly come close to being met. That is incorrect, PoolMan. There has actually only been one Megaman game. They just remade it 72 times. -D Not true. There's two. Megaman and the often under-the-radar but in my opinion superior Megaman Legends/Megaman 64. -- from an ancient system that takes a half hour to start and then only works in 8 minute spurts before resetting and forcing me to bang on it with my fist like the Fonz, only less effectively. But somehow, I soldier on. -D No no, Chrono Trigger. Not Chrono Cross. All Super Nintendos have a half-life of 5,000 years.

Well I can't foresee the future like you guys, but I can look at the past, and Nintendo hasn't been re-releasing this game like many others.
I think it's akin to publishers releasing a new edition of a book, or movie companies issuing "special edition" DVDs and the like. If that offends you, then just don't buy. If it gives someone pleasure, what's the harm?

It's all about the Entropy, my friend. I have made it very clear that I care more about the natural state of chaos in the universe more than any human being or humans as a race in general. This is why I'd vote for Kodos or the T-1000s or the Machines or aliens in any series so long as they didn't like us.
But like all things, this just aggravates me because if you just modified your stuff (DS) a little you wouldn't have to spend any money.
