White Hot = Storm? I'm thinking a song that has the lyric "I need rain" over and over again could be the weather witch. Not bad reasoning, Poolie, but you're a little off. For this one, you probably want to focus slightly more on the title and the phrase "in the jungle".

Is Vox for Jean Grey?
It does sound a bit like Jean's type of song, doesn't it? In this case, however, that's not quite it. I'll tell you that this character is related to someone else on the list (who has not been guessed yet either), and that some might think this character bears certain similarities to Jean.
Keep guessing, everyone... it's still anyone's game!

Ooooh, ooooh!! I get a second guess?? Oh my god! *squee*
Oh.. oh god.. the pressure.. what.. what shall I guess?? *face!plant*
Ahem.
I'll go with this one. Back to Shalla-Bal by Joe Satriana.. I can't ever ever remember when he was an X-Men, but there is no way this song works for ANYONE but The Silver Surfer... seeing as how Shalla-Bal is the name of his long lost, ever to be unrequited, emperess?? C'mon people! He had to have been a friend of the X-Men or something, back in-a-da day, he had his hands in everything!
Hah... major props for correctly identifying Shalla Bal as the beloved of the Silver Surfer. That takes some nerdy knowledge, my friend.
1) Back to Shalla Bal IS the 2-point song.
2) It is not the Silver Surfer. Sorry. He has never, to the best of my knowledge, had particularly close ties with any X-Men or affiliate teams.
3) HOWEVER, the character in question is an interplanetary traveler and may be acquainted with some of the same individuals as the Surfer. I can say no more. Away with you!

I am going to be placing my guess for tomorrow here ahead of time, as for the next 24 hours I will be traveling for work (JOY!). Highlight to read please when the time is right.... highlight the Quote and everything that follows. Thanks. Back to Shalla-Bal.... since it's apparently an instrumental and has no lyrics, I only have the title to work with. And with the clue above.... ... the only other Interplanetary explorer that I know of that has a connection to both the Surfer and the X-mutants is Galactus. And the only connection I can remember Galactus having is that he once "chatted" with the Professor: "You fail to understand. I am a primal force in the Universe, the end that comes to all eventually. I am beyond such petty morality. You thought to change history, Charles Xavier. Yet, if you knew this is the way it was ... You must have known it is the way it would be." – Galactus, X-Men Vol. 1, No. 90, July 1999 Honestly, with the clues we have so far for the two pointer: - "Who was only an ally of the team in question (and girlfriend to one of them), not a full member"
- "Is an interplanetary traveler and may be acquainted with some of the same individuals as the Surfer" and
- An INSTRUMENTAL named "Back to Shalla-Bal"...
Well, only three people are Interplanetary travellers that have a relation to Shalla-Bal, and that's Galactus, the Silver Surfer, and Shalla-Bal herself. Shalla-Bal has NO connection to any mutants that I could find anywhere, and the Sufer is NOT the right answer, so the only person left is Galactus. The problem with this answer? Unless he's had a sex change lately....Galactus couldn't be anyone's "girlfriend". So Drew, you're either confusing the clues for the two pointer, or something else is going on here.... There are two fundamental misassumptions there, I think- one, that I make mistakes (perish the thought), and two, that just because "Shalla Bal" is in the song's title, the character has by necessity met Shalla Bal or has any connection with her. This character may or may not have ever met anyone associated with the Silver Surfer -- I honestly couldn't tell you off the top of my head -- but she is a cosmic traveler, that's the main thing to take away. Oh, and bitchin' guitar riffs.
It's a tough one to get, no doubt... that's why it's worth two points. Anyone wanting to play it safe can always go with one of the other songs; there are definitely still a few easier ones left.

"Spiritwalker" by The Cult:
Dani Moonstar?
So, so very close...
But nope.
EDIT: I'd also like to request a hint, if I may: In light of your warning against X-Force; is Shatterstar on here anywhere?
I think I might have mentioned it before, but no. Only good characters on this list, and in the case of X-Force, no character who wasn't in existence for at least a year before X-Force started.

Okay my clock says 9:00 PM Cali time so....
White hot=Pyro?
Come on. It has to.
Despite trying to reform soon before his death, Pyro was never a member of the X-Men or any of their affiliates. Also, in keeping with previous hints, I don't think he ever had anything to do with a jungle.
At the time this list was compiled, the character in question had only been a member of one of the spinoff teams, but reportedly s/he will be joining the X-Men proper within the next few months, if that helps.

*goes out on a limb*
Assimilate by Skinny Puppy = Cable?
Cable looks pretty "steampunk" to me...
You know, I can see where you're going with that guess, Oogie. You want to go further. Why settle for the one-armed man when you can have the whole thing?

Alright, I'm using up my monday guess now, since I've got apartment hunting to do tomorrow - based on your last clue, does Assimilate by Skinny Puppy belong to Colossus? He's the only character I can think of connected to the X-Men that has more T-O metal than Cable. Think harder. Nah, I'm just teasing, but while Colossus has plenty of metal, none of it is techno-organic in nature.

I just can't get a break, lol. I should probably give up at this point. Obscenely obscure and well thought out guesses get me no points, yet I can't get the easy stuff either. Yarg! And I may remove you from my friends list on Myspace for getting Dear God, Phil. *murderous death stare* I sacrificed that guess for the Candy Southern one. Yeesh. I suck at this kind of thing.

Hmmm. . . "Changes" by Yes
--Morph
No, although props for obscurity. For those unaware, when the creators of the early '90s X-Men cartoon needed a character to kill in their first storyline, they turned to the Changeling, a shapeshifter who briefly impersonated Professor X in the '60s and was killed while doing so. However, the name "Changeling" was being used by a DC character at the time, so they renamed him "Morph." The character proved unexpectedly popular, so he was both brought back to life in the cartoon and became a member of the X-Men in the alternate universe story Age of Apocalypse, once again under the name Morph.
However, as far as shortlived '60s X-Men go, neither he nor the Mimic is on the playlist.

Spiritwalker by the Cult = Forge?
Nope. Not a member of the X-Men. Think spinoff teams.

Wait, would Assimilate be... Cerebro?
While Cerebro did once come to life and try to kill them, it has never been a member of the X-Men or one of the affiliate teams, so it is not on this list. Sorry!

No time for a well-researched guess today, so I'm going with the first guess I came up with based on the first song I looked into.
"Lock and Key" (Rush) - Wolverine
Nuh-uh. Although I will say that Wolverine's song HAS been guessed by someone already, albeit for a different character.

Well, we're about a third of the way through the contest, and thus far it's still anyone's game to win. I hope you all are having as much fun as I am; meanwhile, I think it's time for a larger clue. If the guesses so far have shown me anything, it's that many people are targeting X-Men, but comparatively few have much interest in the spinoff teams. Maybe some additional info will help people out in that respect:
-The X-Men on the playlist span from the beginning of the team through to the early '90s. They DO NOT include Mimic or the Changeling. The "X-Men 1.5" team wasn't created until 2004, so they're obviously not on this list. All of the "All-New, All-Different" 1975 team ARE on the list. Magneto, as mentioned before, is not. Neither are Jubilee or Joseph. In fact, I think the last X-Men team member included on the list joined in 1991.
-The New Mutants on the list include the "classic" team of 9 who joined and were featured between issues 1-75. The only two other New Mutants on the list both became affiliated with the team later (but at least a year before the series ended) and were both founding members of X-Force. One is a male, one is a female.
-There are two other members of X-Force on the playlist who were never part of the New Mutants, although one of them was from the New Mutants' rival team. The other is related to a member of the X-Men. Feral, Shatterstar, and Domino (or her impersonator) are not on the list.
-For X-Factor, all six characters who were part of the team when it was relaunched in issue #71 are on this list. Two of them were former X-Men, one was a former New Mutant, the remaining three had never been on an official X-team before.
-For Excalibur, the members on this playlist are the five founding members of the team. Three of them were former X-Men, the other two had never been members of an X-team before (though one is related to an X-Man).
Hopefully that helps, Good luck, everyone!
-D

Okay...nother try on this one...
Strange Animal=Wolverine?
Ouch. The irony gods are rolling on the floor, for reasons that will eventually become apparent. But for now, unfortunately that's incorrect... Strange Animal is a bit too playful and upbeat for Mr. Hardcore, Badass Wolverine. Keep trying, tho'!
