Wow. Just wow. I mean I went from cheering,* to holding my breath.
It was a great night though. Adlington breaking Evans' record, and I'm pulling for Torres.
*Yes, I am one of those people. Yes, I know they can't actually hear me.

I'll watch sports when they make Air Combat Maneuvering a televised event. Not a second before.

I'm still baffled that BMX is an Olympic sport, but as of 2012, baseball will not be. I know it's not nearly as popular in some parts of the world as it is here, but... BMX?

better yet... Six degrees of reginald vel johnson huh... huh??? Only if the rules exclude the use of Die Hard and Die Hard characters. Now we're talking Olympic-level difficulty.

Excluding Die Hard/Die Hard characters is just plain sadistic.

I'm all about Hockey. My favorite teams are the Philadelphia Flyers (Yeah, they've stunk up the place the last few seasons... But they're still my team) and the Colorado Avalanche. (Especially when they had Patrick Roy in the net and they had Foresberg, Sakic, Foote and I believe Kariya in the line-up) Now that I am going to marry a Canadian and move to Alberta, I will get all the hockey I can stomach (CBC HOORAY!!!!!) by the way... my fiance is a BIG Calgary Flames fan. THAT shouldn't cause any conflict....
On the fateful day that we are married, have a place, and tune into a Flyers vs. Flames game..... I'm just going to save myself the trouble and heart-ache and sleep on the couch. She's all ready bought me a set of "My little pony" sheets for just such an occasion. She tells me that she's going to use glow-in-the-dark paint to stencil "Well THAT was stupid" on the pillow case just to throw some salt on the proverbial wound.
I WISH I were kidding.

Congrats on the engagement, Gallahad! Although it really is a shame you'll be inheriting Todd Bertuzzi as part of this year's Flames lineup. We couldn't get him out of Vancouver fast enough.

As long as Bertuzzi isn't coming to the Flyers... I'm good.
If I could hijack the thread for just a second. I proposed to my fiance at the glacier field in Jasper National Park in Alberta. There's this good-sized hill leading up to the base of the glacier Right at the base of the glacier I pull out the ring and I propose to her. She told me to not take a knee so it wouldn't draw attention (She's VERY private). She just smiles wide, says yes and we kissed. As we're walking down the hill she says to me "I just thought of something... you proposed to me on a frigid chunk of rock surrounded by ICE!?!?!" She gave it a few seconds for me to get terrified.. then she proceeded to crack a rib laughing. (Crack a rib as a metaphor) Apparently, my expression was priceless. I swear to John McClane, that woman is something else and I love her to pieces.

I don't know what sort of fight fans we have out there in forum-world, but former UFC middleweight champ Evan Tanner was found dead yesterday by the local sheriff's department at a vacation camp site in the California desert. His last two bouts proved pretty conclusively that his best days as an MMA fighter were behind him, but he was always one of my favorites. I'll miss him.
RIP (1971-2008)

I just found this out tonight, but there's an Olympic gold medalist in one of my grad school classes. She was part of the women's rowing team. She wasn't in the first class last week because she was in Chicago taping that Oprah Winfrey show. The professor said she would forgive her if she brought the gold medal to class... and she did. Dude, it was like five feet away from me.
So cool.
