What probably terrified me most, and STILL creeps me out to this day is that creepalicious made for TV movie Alice In Wonderland. That horrible scene where the actress (who's name I forgot) starts insanely bleeting out "BETTAAHHHH!!!! MUCH BETTAAAAHHHHH" while turning into a goat. *shivers* And let's not even discuss the nightmares I suffered as a result of the jabberwocky. Guh that movie was CREEEPY. Carol Channing aka Scariest Woman Alive!

When I was a youngin' the two movies that really got me were "Burnt Offerings" with Oliver Reed, and the original "Tales from the Crypt" movie.
Burnt Offerings I can barely remember, but what I do remember was the chauffeur! Scariest dude in the universe.
Tales from the Crypt was mostly pretty tame, but I remember one episode (I think it was the Monkeys Paw or something) about a man who died and his wife wished he would come back to life and live forever. He does, but his return captures the time he was being embalmed. He's screaming in pain and writhing and whatnot, so wifey chops him up with an axe! But he still comes back to life, all chopped up and nasty! It probably isn't that scary now, but as a kid it meant many a night in my parents bed!

I'm going to have to go back to my childhood here. Movies don't really scare me anymore. Not bragging, I actually sort of regret it because I used to like it when a movie could do that. I think years of watching them even at a young age (watched Aliens when I was 7, and I was fine) and my like of the Silent Hill video game series have conditioned me against artificial scares. The best ones nowadays can fill me with a sense of dread and play on my imagination.
But when I was a kid, there were a number of movies that used to get me all the time, and not always the ones you might think of. I can't think of all of them off the top of my head, but I remember the Banshee from the end of Darby O'Gill and the Little People freaking both me and my brother right out. I know, it's mostly a funny little story, but one semi-transparent robed figure with one creepy wail get me every time. More traditionally scary, Tim Curry from IT just cemented an already naturally-formed dread of clowns (and Tim Curry) that persists to this day. Though I guess that violates the pre-1980 rule. Oh well.
The Haunting used to spook me right out, and is still pretty effective today, though I know it too well to be caught off guard now. Still a heck of a film though.
