Is anyone else watching this show? I just recently got into it, and I have to say that it is completely and totally awesome. A great blend of action, horror, humor...and angst. So much angst. So much.
And the new season? It just keeps getting better and better! Thus far there have only been a couple "meh" episodes, and even those had their share of great moments. And the latest episode (Monster Movie)? Definitely one of their best, all around. Atmospheric and hilarious. And a little bit poignant too.
So, anyone else dig this show?

I just saw the preview for tonight's episode a couple of hours ago. I've never seen it (don't think I've ever heard of it before). The preview made it look good, and after your glowing review Hubby and I will be watching it tonight.

I used to be a big fan, but I lost track of when episodes were coming out and fell behind. I can't get back into it until I catch up. Same with Smallville. I'm REALLY behind on that.

I have the same problem with Heros. It came out while I was in Japan and I didn't get to watch it until my friend bought the first season on DVD. I only watched the first two episodes of the first season, then had to move back to the States. That was right before the writer's strike (3 years waiting eagerly to watch new episodes as they premier, and I move back during that idiotic strike!). I have much DVD rental (or maybe pirating) to do.

Supernatural is amazing. It is one of the best TV shows out there at the moment. And definitely one of the most consistent. They are just airing season 4 and what I've seen so far is as good as anything in previous seasons. Even Season 3, which was marred by the writer's strike, like many other shows, still was great (unlike S2 of Heroes, which was just about passable). I really can't sing enough praise about Supernatural. I seriously urge anyone who hasn't seen it to go buy it now Also, as its filmed in Vancouver, well, let's just say that there's a very familiar bridge that gets a lot of air time

My first episode was the Monster Movie episode the other night. I wasn't as entranced as everyone else so far is on this thread. I didn't dislike it, just wasn't crazy about it. Maybe I should catch it from episode 1, Season 1? I really only have two TV vices, which are House and Big Bang Theory. I guess I need to start filling up my other nights.

Ah, the Monster Movie one was a comedy episode.
What Supernatural does really well is have the odd comedy episode (in the same way the X-Files did) at the same time not destroying any credibility.
I can totally see why you might not be overly enthralled by this as your first episode.
I seriously suggest going to the Season 1/Episode 1 route. Because then, by the time you get to "Ghost Facers", you'll fully be able to appreciate its awesomeness!
P.S. One of my cats has a horrible habit of farting on me. Its his way of letting me know that the litter tray needs cleaning. Couldn't he just meow at me rather than gassing me?

I think the comedy episodes are probably better if you see them in context within the rest of the show. Since for the most part, the show is filled with angst, angst, and more angst (but very well done angst), and tragedy, and more angst, the comedy episodes are generally much needed...uh, comic relief. But yeah, you'd probably get more out of the show in general if you begin at the beginning.

BUT I will say that your enthusiasm for the show has me interested and I didn't hate what I saw in October. SO that being the case I'll check out the earlier episodes. If I remember. And if the local rental store has it. For cheap.

Most of the episodes have comedy, mostly between the brothers Winchester and their witty banter. That's usually offset by some of the most disturbing crap that I sometimes find hard to believe they get away with on the 'CEEEEE DOUBLE-EUE'... Whatever the hell THAT is.
Thus the entire comedy episodes are so, so, so out of place and so, so, so completely wrong they're damned brilliant. It's like putting a Jedi robe on Han Solo.

I'll be watching some horrible thing happen (the Halloween episode had a particularly horrible opening involving razorblades in candy...eugh), and be like "THEY SHOW THIS ON TV?!?!" And yes, there is usually comedy and brotherly banter in between all of the disturbing crap and angst. Which is pretty much necessary, because otherwise the show would be nigh unwatchable.

Supernatural is best described as two brothers, who know they are living on borrowed time, on a road trip whose ultimate goal is just to kill as many bad guys before their number is up. Given that the concept of the show is pretty depressing and bad things happen to pretty much everyone who walks in front of the camera, Rett and Aarg have hit the proverbial nail on the head when they say that the humour is the glue that holds the show together. Supernatural is Buffy the Vampire Slayer's older and much more cynical sibling (except season 4 was actually very good ).
