Hey, just wanted to inform everyone that today, Bernie Wrightson's illustrated version of Frankenstein is finally being re-released. Wrightson is a comic book artist who's best known for two things: his insane level of detail, and his ability to draw horrifying things. If you're a comic writer and your story involves the macabre, the eerie, the gothic, you want Wrightson illustrating it, no questions asked. This is a man who will draw a spooky old laboratory with the perfect blend of light and shadow, and who will make every single one of the hundred different beakers and flasks look different, and all wonderfully bizarre. Sorry, I know I'm probably overselling it, but he really is great. Anyway, a number of years ago Wrightson was commissioned to illustrate Mary Shelley's classic Frankenstein, and he knocked it out of the park- you can see every rippling vein and grotesque facial deformity on the creature perfectly. They had it at my public library growing up, and I can tell you, this thing is gorgeous. It's been out of print for years now, but it's finally being re-released today, just in time for Halloween. Just thought I'd spread the word, in case anyone finds themselves near a comic shop or bookstore in the near future. If you're at all a fan of Mary Shelley's classic, this is the version you want sitting on your shelf, I promise you. Here's a small sample of some of the art... small sized, unfortunately, but you can still get a decent idea of what to expect.

Do you have a link about the re-release? I'd like to post it over in the Annex.

Here's the official description of it by Dark Horse Comics, who are publishing the re-release. This lists the release date as next week, but I saw on another reputable site that it was supposed to be today, so I don't know which is correct. -D

In kind of the same vein (har har), Eunice, I just found out about The New Annotated Dracula while walking through Barnes & Noble today. Looks to be an incredibly comprehensive edition of Dracula with an introduction by Neil Gaiman and extensive research into Stoker's source material, by the guy who did The Annnotated Sherlock Holmes a couple years back. I only glanced through it quickly, but it looked pretty cool. -D

Thanks!
And about the Frankenstein dates, if you look on Amazon it says November 5, you look on Barnes & Noble it just has a vague October 2008. How crazy is that?
