So I went back to my PS2. The game I was waiting for, Half-Life (I'm huge HL fan and the PS2 version had a campaign I hadn't played!) came out and it was AWFUL. *sigh* I would go on to buy a handful of games (some D & D thing, some Everquest thing, Transformers and Guitar Hero 1 & 2) but that, my friends, was that. you missed TONS of awesome games for PS2. I am definitely no Sony fan, and the Xbox and Gamecube had some pretty sweet exclusive games, but arguably the PS2 had the highest number of games worth playing. I used to work in a pawn shop and i picked up loads of PS2 games super cheap. I have an xbox 360 now, but I most of my PS2 games I haven't even played yet. Good PS2 games off the top of my head: Jak and Daxter, Ratchet and Clank, God of War, Twisted Metal, Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, Tekken, Gran Turismo, Ico, Shadow of the Colossus what was wrong with the PS2 version of Half-Life? Well the exclusive content kinda sucks, but the main campaign works well.

Wow. Where has this thread gone? Okay, okay, I'll say something on topic for redemption. CC me. But Poolman's main argument seems not to be one, but multiple consoles vs. one PC and his corresponding price was $1500, not $500. There you have it. $6000 is lunacy. People already have a PC and if they use it for all kinds of stuff and gaming, it doesn't make sense to attribute the whole PC's cost to gaming alone. Plus I'm not sure one should compare top of the line PC components (the $6000 guys ignore anything else) with, say, a two year old console. The price of a certain component will typically drop quite quickly quite early. Buying the best of the best is a mistake and its result should not be compared to console buying. And slightly older components (and foregoing case modding) could make for a very competitively priced PC vs. three consoles.

I am definitely no Sony fan, and the Xbox and Gamecube had some pretty sweet exclusive games, but arguably the PS2 had the highest number of games worth playing. You see, that's a matter of taste. I don't like platform games, beat 'em ups or racing games. So nearly all your list was just...ugh to me. Admittedly, Ico and Shadow of the Colossus both looked awesome but by that point, I'd buried myself under a pile of Xbox games. I did buy FFX for PS2 and got sick of the "Press X to continue" style of gameplay. To me, it felt like the least interactive FF game. I also got Silent Hill but it scared me too much Clunky, not very smooth and it didn't receive much of a graphical update over the original version.

So with the world crashing down around our ears, who has this kind of surplus cash to make these kinds of purchases, and how do they justify them? I don't mean to harp on anyone here, but there came a point where I just had to say to myself that maybe video gaming isn't as important to me as 30 nice dinners out, y'know? At that time, I was single and living at home Now I've got a mortgage and a live-in girlfriend, any surplus cash that I do somehow manage to scrape now goes on nice dinners out

The others I haven't played. It's a shame you're not into any of those, DTH. Given your exclusiveness maybe I could suggest...Katamari Damacy? Oh and I think you're a Gauntlet fan so I must warn you never to touch Seven Sorrows. It will steal your soul with disappointment. Both my husband and I love our PS2, but when we buy one of these next gen consoles it's going to be a 360. No way we're paying the price for a PS3.

I guess I have a unique perspective since I own all 3 lol. My PS3 gets the most use by far, Wii was fun when I bought it but has gotten old due to lack of content, and if games come out for 360 and PS3 I opt for the PS3 version (blu ray disc, better, graphics, less load times).
A couple of 360 exclusives like gears of war 2 and halo 3 sit on my shelf now that I have little big planet and resistance 2 lol.

I love the Wii...in doses. I agree it has a lack of content and it can just get boring. What the console is truly great for is party games. SUCH a fun party game. Also: Okami on the Wii? Rubbish. I thought that would be the pinnacle of awesome, and I was so wrong. EDIT: Right after posting I saw this on Yahoo's front page: The price, she's a-comin' down. Maybe.
