The last year has seen two flagship comic characters meet their maker. Following his surrender at the end of Marvel's Civil War crossover, Captain America was shot dead by an assassin while being transferred to prison. His role is now being filled by the Winter Soldier, formerly Cap's sidekick Bucky who was thought dead from 1963 to 2005. As for Batman, after much publicity by DC Comics and the "Batman RIP" storyline, he died in today's Final Crisis #6. The role of the new Batman and Robin will be filled by some combination of Nightwing (Robin I), Jason Todd (Robin II), current Robin Tim Drake, and Bruce Wayne's illegitimate son Damian, to be determined in March's "Battle for the Cowl" storyline.
So. Two of comics' most recognizable and enduring characters, both dead. I don't think anyone, anywhere, under any circumstances thinks they'll stay dead/replaced... after Superman came back, pull the other one, y'know? But it leads us to today's question, namely who do you think will be brought back to life first?
If it helps your decision, remember that Steve Rogers is set to star in The First Avenger: Captain America in early 2011, and then The Avengers in late 2011, at least in theory. On the other hand, there's sure to be another Batman movie in another 2-3 years, if not sooner. But Batman is so iconic (and his origin story's already been covered), would it be easier to get away with having Bruce Wayne in the movie but not in the comics?

WARNING: Batman spoilers ahead! (highlight to view)
I have it on good authority that Batman isn't actually dead and its all a ruse. Given that the storyline is so awful, I'm not surprised. But this comes straight from the people behind the book.
I wish I could give you a source but I've heard this from a Batman devotee, so I think its kosher.

I have superpowers that allow me to read that spoiler without highlighting it.
It's the Kinoki pads, I'll bet. And the fact that our forum does not support a text color precisely matched to that of the background.

I'd just like to say that I am more opposed to Cap coming back than Batman. In fact, I'll just quote my friend's thoughts on the matter because he makes a lot of sense; I hated it. DC did the same kind of thing back in the 90's with the whole Knightfall thing. The thing is, for me, Batman is a very character driven comic, and you've got 70 years worth of Bruce Wayne being Batman. So Batman IS Bruce Wayne, the whole point behind the comic is that this person is driven to do these things by these actions. And if you kill him off, then the whole point point of the character shifts. It's not Batman, it's Robin in a Batman suit, or Nightwing, or Hush, or Stan from down the pub. So I hated it for that reason. But not that reason alone. I quite like Grant Morrison, I think the All Star Superman he did was superb. But on this, he really sucked big time. He had that thing some comic writers get where he seemed to have to prove he knew more about the comic's history than you did, so tried to put in everything that had ever happened in the comics over the years, and it just didn't work. Messy and Cheap.
