Snuck out with Darth Madler last night to see the movie, and came away very, very impressed. As adaptations go, it was fiercely loyal, I thought. There were changes, to be sure, but they mostly made sense to me. Loved the soundtrack, especially the Bob Dylan (and BD cover!) and the Simon and Garfunkel over the funeral scene. Had a great time spotting fake 80's celebrities (David Bowie!). And I thought the cast was spot on perfect. For an ensemble movie, to have a cast that strong and well placed throughout was a genuine and welcome surprise. Especially Rorschach... he nailed a very, very tricky character, especially in the scenes without his "face". (To a lesser extent, the scene where he watches while the Comedian fires a shotgun at civilians... in the comic, if memory serves, it was made clear that Comedian was firing rubber bullets, but here they seem to be real.) Actually, they showed the projectiles to be gas cans... still nonlethal. So... SPOILERS BELOW!What'd you guys think of the change to the end? Still Adrian's plan, same net result, but replace non sequitur alien invasion with Dr Manhattan seemingly blowing up all the major cities on Earth? I'm still digesting, but I think I can live with it.

Actually, they showed the projectiles to be gas cans... still nonlethal. I saw that, but I didn't mean the last part, where he shot the spraypainter with a tear gas canister... I meant earlier, when he was firing a shotgun into the crowd. It's not a huge thing, and the dialogue from the comic ("I've got rubber bullets, I've got crowd dispersal gas") would have been pretty clunky, it was just slightly irksome to me. So... SPOILERS BELOW!What'd you guys think of the change to the end? Still Adrian's plan, same net result, but replace non sequitur alien invasion with Dr Manhattan seemingly blowing up all the major cities on Earth? I'm still digesting, but I think I can live with it. I'm okay with it, although I can see why it would bug some people. The alien invasion thing might have seemed hokey and would have been harder to explain, so I can see why they changed it. At the same time, faking an attack by Dr. Manhattan doesn't have quite the "uniting against a common enemy" angle... if I were the Soviets, I think I'd be more inclined to blame America (he was our agent, after all), or to assume that we're reaping what we sowed while others get caught in the crossfire, rather than thinking the attacks were equally unprovoked by all of the countries affected. -D

Agreed. Not quite how I thought about it, Drew, but I understand your line of thought.
Interesting point: why is Bubastis in the movie? In the novel, she was a red flag that indicated Veidt was doing genetic experimentation, which precludes the "alien" invasion. Other than fan service, what purpose does she serve in the movie? The movie doesn't show Veidt doing anything to do with genetics.

Did anyone else's theater give out posters? Nooo, it didn't! But the theater I went to is garbage. Even though I'm totally glad to have it, since I've lived with lesser and worse theaters, but it's still garbage. The closest one that isn't as bad or worse is 30-40 minutes one way and the tickets are twice as much. *grumble* *grumble* I now officially hate you (in a loving way of course!).

I now officially hate you (in a loving way of course!). Aww.....thanks, Eunice. That really means a lot. I hate you, too! Unless something truly awesome comes out this year I may not go to the theaters again. I'm not even kidding. I went, like....twice last year? It's just too expensive and I'm too lazy. Blast, I still curse myself for not getting two sets of those posters...
