I was asked by a student for a book recommendation that has me stumped, so I thought I would ask you fine, literate people for some suggestions. Here's what I have to go on: - He's a high school sophomore in all honors classes.
- He's very math/science oriented.
- His favorite books are Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events, which he is about to finish.
- He doesn't like science fiction or fantasy.
Where does he go from here?

Tell him to read "Ham on Rye" by Charles Bukowski. It's the furthest thing from science fiction or fantasy. It's gritty, real and damned funny (It is vulgar in parts but it's realistically vulgar).

He could try Neil Gaiman's "Anansi Boys". It's a standalone sequel to "American Gods", has that trademark Gaiman mysticism without being fantasy.

The whole math/science oriented thing throws me off: however, I still think he would greatly enjoy the Hercule Poirot mystery series by Agatha Christie: they're intellectually challenging, to say the least!
