I have never had a game interest me enough to warrant the purchase of its associated console purely on its own merit.
Further, I have no interest in portable consoles, and have never owned one, save for a weird-ass Russian Gameboy knockoff I had when I was twelve.
Having said that, I am now going to purchase a PSP purely for the sake of Dissidia: Final Fantasy.
That is all.

Gosh... seems like the kind of thing that could easily go in the Final Fantasy thread, eh? However, I sympathize. While I loved Game Boy as a kid and bought a used DS last year almost exclusively for Castlevania games, I can't bring myself to buy a PSP. There's only two games I want to play -- the Dracula X Chronicles and FF: Dissidia -- and that's just not enough to justify it to myself. I'm hoping they'll eventually port Rondo of Blood to Virtual Console and, I don't know, release Dissidia to PS2 the way they eventually did with Silent Hill 0. Let me know how it is, though! -D

I can sincerely empathize, Bubba. Dissidia carries some significant interest for me too, ALMOST in the buying the PSP range. But not quite. Boy, it's close, though.

I was initially going to buy one of the old-style PSPs used, since I figured such would be dirt cheap, on account of it feels like the PSP has been around forever.
$80 bucks was the best I could find, which, granted, is certainly cheap-esque, but still expensive enough that I was open to the idea of shelling out more for the allegedly-better PSP 3000, and the warm, fuzzy feeling that comes with knowing that my handheld console has never been up anyone's butt (see the Rule of Used Electronics).
Then along came Gamestop, with their offer of a super-duper-special silver PSP 3000, and memory stick, and the very game I got into the whole mess for.
"Exclusive bundles! My only weakness! How did you know?"
And by only, I mean one of about two hundred.

So remember how last night on Facebook I was all "Ha! My husband has a PSP that I bought him last year for Christmas. He'll be home in two weeks, so I can totally buy Dissidia and enjoy the awesomeness!"?
Yeah, screw that. He wrote me today and said he busted it. It only plays music now.
NOOOOOOOOOOO!
I know what I'm getting me *cough* I mean, HIM for Christmas again this year.....

I agree that one game is not enough to sell me on a system. I remember when Crisis Core was originally announced (circa 2005), it interested me, but the PSP really did not have the necessary library to entice me at the time. Nowadays it's a different story. Though there should be more AAA titles in my opinion, between Castlevania, God of War Chains of Olympus, and the (good) FF games the system has, I think it's a solid (though not perfect) choice.
About Dissidia itself: I'm enjoying it, which means... something. I'm not 100% ready to recommend it, but considering I was in the relative majority that disliked the final product of Crisis Core, I'm willing to say the product is solid. It took me a while to get the full swing of things, but now I'm progressing along fairly well. The different characters present a solid variety in fighting styles, and I haven't even gotten around to playing as the villains yet. I might complain a bit about how needing to level up each character makes the whole thing a bit grindy, but so far it has remained fun enough that I haven't noticed it too badly.
At the very least, it's successful at being different from anything I might have expected from the franchise, and it's an decent action title from a company that has proven to be more than a little allergic to the form. Just don't go in expecting ANYTHING from the story. I may not have finished with it yet, but I don't expect it to go beyond being mere fanservice that doesn't really make sense even in the context of fanservice.
Game's solid though!
(Also, Heather, you might consider trading the non-functioning system for a new one at Gamestop or somewhere. Obviously, it won't be a free transaction, but they do refurbish systems, and you could either get a new one (the Dissidia bundle, if that interests you), or a used system if you want a cheaper option. Just an idea.)

I come and go like the night wind...
Or sometimes I get busy with work and other stuff and don't feel like posting for a while.
Whichever's more mysterious, I guess.
